Journal ArticleDOI

Identification, purification, and biological characterization of hematopoietic stem cell factor from buffalo rat liver-conditioned medium

TL;DR: A novel growth factor, stem cell factor (SCF), for primitive hematopoietic progenitors based on its activity on bone marrow cells derived from mice treated with 5-fluorouracil is identified and sequences of partial SCF cDNAs are presented.
Journal ArticleDOI

Characterization of Alzheimer's beta -secretase protein BACE. A pepsin family member with unusual properties.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that BACE is an N-glycosylated integral membrane protein that undergoes constitutive N-terminal processing in the Golgi apparatus and the presence of a transmembrane domain and the unusual disulfide bond structure lead us to conclude that Bace is an atypical pepsin family member.
Journal ArticleDOI

Structure of the active core of human stem cell factor and analysis of binding to its receptor kit.

TL;DR: The crystal structure of selenomethionyl soluble human SCF is determined at 2.2 Å resolution by multiwavelength anomalous diffraction phasing and it is found that the SCF dimer has a symmetric ‘head‐to‐head’ association.
Journal ArticleDOI

Glycosylated and unglycosylated recombinant-derived human stem cell factors are dimeric and have extensive regular secondary structure.

TL;DR: The structural characterization of soluble forms of recombinant human SCF purified from Escherichia coli (unglycosylated) and from Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells (glycosylate) is described.
