TL;DR: Two common variants, located on 9q22.33 and 14q13.3, are shown to be associated with thyroid cancer, and both risk alleles are associated with low concentrations of thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) and high concentration of triiodothyronine (T3).

TL;DR: To search for sequence variants conferring risk of nonmedullary thyroid cancer, analysis on 22 SNPs with a P < 5 × 10−8 in a genome-wide association study on levels of thyroid stimulating hormone in 27,758 Icelanders focused on rs965513, a region previously reported to contain an uncorrelated variant conferringrisk of thyroid cancer.
