Journal ArticleDOI
Association between mortality and indicators of traffic-related air pollution in the Netherlands: a cohort study
TL;DR: Long-term exposure to traffic-related air pollution may shorten life expectancy, and the association between exposure to air pollution and (cause specific) mortality was assessed with Cox's proportional hazards models.
Journal ArticleDOI
Long-term air pollution exposure and cardio- respiratory mortality: a review.
Gerard Hoek,Ranjini M. Krishnan,Rob Beelen,Annette Peters,Bart Ostro,Bert Brunekreef,Joel D. Kaufman +6 more
TL;DR: In subjects with lower education and obese subjects a larger effect estimate for mortality related to fine PM was found, though the evidence for differences related to education has been weakened in more recent studies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Air pollution and lung cancer incidence in 17 European cohorts : Prospective analyses from the European Study of Cohorts for Air Pollution Effects (ESCAPE)
Ole Raaschou-Nielsen,Zorana Jovanovic Andersen,Rob Beelen,Evangelia Samoli,Massimo Stafoggia,Gudrun Weinmayr,Barbara Hoffmann,Paul Fischer,Mark J. Nieuwenhuijsen,Bert Brunekreef,Wei W. TL;DR: The meta-analyses showed a statistically significant association between risk for lung cancer and PM10 and PM2·5, and no association between lungcancer and nitrogen oxides concentration or traffic intensity on the nearest street.
Journal ArticleDOI
A review of land-use regression models to assess spatial variation of outdoor air pollution
Gerard Hoek,Rob Beelen,Kees de Hoogh,Danielle Vienneau,John S. Gulliver,Paul Fischer,David J. Briggs +6 more
TL;DR: Land-use regression (LUR) models have been increasingly used in the past few years to assess the health effects of long-term average exposure to outdoor air pollution as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of long-term exposure to air pollution on natural-cause mortality : An analysis of 22 European cohorts within the multicentre ESCAPE project

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the association between natural-cause mortality and long-term exposure to several air pollutants, such as PM2.5, nitrogen oxides, and NOx.
