Journal ArticleDOI
Inhibition of macroautophagy triggers apoptosis.
Patricia Boya,Rosa-Ana Gonzalez-Polo,Noelia Casares,Jean-Luc Perfettini,Philippe Dessen,Nathanael Larochette,Didier Métivier,Daniel Meley,Sylvie Souquère,Tamotsu Yoshimori,Gérard Pierron,Patrice Codogno,Guido Kroemer +12 more
TL;DR: Data indicate that autophagy may be cytoprotective, at least under conditions of nutrient depletion, and point to an important cross talk between type 1 and type 2 cell death pathways.
Journal ArticleDOI
Caspase-dependent immunogenicity of doxorubicin-induced tumor cell death.
Noelia Casares,Marie O. Pequignot,Antoine Tesniere,François Ghiringhelli,Stephan Roux,Nathalie Chaput,Elise Schmitt,Ahmed Hamaï,Sandra Hervas-Stubbs,Michel Obeid,Fréderic Philippe Coutant,Didier Métivier,Evelyne Pichard,Pierre Aucouturier,Gérard Pierron,Carmen Garrido,Laurence Zitvogel,Guido Kroemer +17 more
TL;DR: It is shown that even in the absence of any adjuvant, tumor cells dying in response to anthracyclins can elicit an effective antitumor immune response that suppresses the growth of inoculated tumors or leads to the regression of established neoplasia.
Journal ArticleDOI
Functional and physical interaction between Bcl‐XL and a BH3‐like domain in Beclin‐1
M. Chiara Maiuri,Gaetane Le Toumelin,Alfredo Criollo,Alfredo Criollo,Alfredo Criollo,Jean-Christophe Rain,Fabien Gautier,Philippe Juin,Ezgi Tasdemir,Ezgi Tasdemir,Ezgi Tasdemir,Gérard Pierron,Kostoula Troulinaki,Nektarios Tavernarakis,John A. Hickman,Olivier Geneste,Guido Kroemer,Guido Kroemer,Guido Kroemer +18 more
TL;DR: A novel autophagy‐stimulatory function of BH3‐only proteins beyond their established role as apoptosis inducers is revealed and is revealed by competitively disrupting the interaction between Beclin‐1 and B cl‐2 or Bcl‐XL.
Journal ArticleDOI
Regulation of autophagy by cytoplasmic p53
Ezgi Tasdemir,M. Chiara Maiuri,M. Chiara Maiuri,M. Chiara Maiuri,Lorenzo Galluzzi,Lorenzo Galluzzi,Lorenzo Galluzzi,Ilio Vitale,Ilio Vitale,Ilio Vitale,Mojgan Djavaheri-Mergny,Marcello D'Amelio,Alfredo Criollo,Alfredo Criollo,Alfredo Criollo,Eugenia Morselli,Eugenia Morselli,Eugenia Morselli,Changlian Zhu,Francis Harper,Ulf Nannmark,Chrysanthi Samara,Paolo Pinton,Jose Miguel Vicencio,Jose Miguel Vicencio,Jose Miguel Vicencio,Rosa Carnuccio,Ute M. Moll,Frank Madeo,Patrizia Paterlini-Bréchot,Rosario Rizzuto,Gyorgy Szabadkai,Gyorgy Szabadkai,Gérard Pierron,Klas Blomgren,Nektarios Tavernarakis,Patrice Codogno,Francesco Cecconi,Guido Kroemer,Guido Kroemer,Guido Kroemer +40 more
TL;DR: Evidence is provided of a key signalling pathway that links autophagy to the cancer-associated dysregulation of p53, which improved the survival of p 53-deficient cancer cells under conditions of hypoxia and nutrient depletion, allowing them to maintain high ATP levels.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mechanisms of pre-apoptotic calreticulin exposure in immunogenic cell death
Theocharis Panaretakis,Theocharis Panaretakis,Theocharis Panaretakis,Oliver Kepp,Oliver Kepp,Oliver Kepp,Ulf Brockmeier,Antoine Tesniere,Antoine Tesniere,Antoine Tesniere,Ann Charlotte Björklund,Daniel C. Chapman,Michael Durchschlag,Nicholas Joza,Nicholas Joza,Nicholas Joza,Gérard Pierron,Peter van Endert,Peter van Endert,Junying Yuan,Laurence Zitvogel,Laurence Zitvogel,Frank Madeo,David B. Williams,Guido Kroemer,Guido Kroemer,Guido Kroemer +26 more
TL;DR: Depletion of PERK, caspase‐8 or SNAREs had no effect on cell death induced by anthracyclines, yet abolished the immunogenicity of cell death, which could be restored by absorbing recombinant CRT to the cell surface.
