TL;DR: In patients with drug‐resistant focal epilepsy requiring surgery, hippocampal sclerosis was the most common histopathological diagnosis among adults, and focal cortical dysplasia was the second most common lesion in both groups.
Journal ArticleDOI
Persistent cognitive impairment, hippocampal atrophy and EEG changes in sepsis survivors
Alexander Semmler,Catherine N. Widmann,Thorsten Okulla,Horst Urbach,Markus Kaiser,Markus Kaiser,Guido Widman,Florian Mormann,Florian Mormann,Julia Weide,Klaus Fliessbach,Andreas Hoeft,Frank Jessen,Christian Putensen,Michael T. Heneka +14 more
TL;DR: This study demonstrates permanent cognitive impairment in several domains in both septic and non-septic ICU survivors and unspecific brain dysfunction.
Journal ArticleDOI
The natural history of Rasmussen's encephalitis.
Christian G. Bien,Guido Widman,Horst Urbach,Robert Sassen,Stefan Kuczaty,Otmar D. Wiestler,Johannes Schramm,Christian E. Elger +7 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that most of the brain damage in RE occurs during the first 8-12 months, and these findings should be taken into consideration when future therapeutic approaches to RE are evaluated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Nonlinear EEG analysis in epilepsy: its possible use for interictal focus localization, seizure anticipation, and prevention.
Klaus Lehnertz,Ralph G. Andrzejak,J. Arnhold,Thomas Kreuz,Florian Mormann,Christoph Rieke,Guido Widman,Christian E. Elger +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors report their work to increase insight into the spatial and temporal dynamics of the epileptogenic process by using nonlinear EEG analysis for improved characterization of epileptic brain states.
Proceedings Article
Methods Towards Invasive Human Brain Computer Interfaces
TN Lal,Thilo Hinterberger,Guido Widman,Michael Schröder,N. J. Hill,Wolfgang Rosenstiel,Christian E. Elger,Niels Birbaumer,Bernhard Schölkopf +8 more
TL;DR: This paper presents the method and examples of intracranial EEG recordings of three epilepsy patients with electrode grids placed on the motor cortex, and analyzes the classifiability of the data using Support Vector Machines (SVMs) and Recursive Channel Elimination (RCE).
