Journal ArticleDOI
The metal-poor end of the Spite plateau - I. Stellar parameters, metallicities, and lithium abundances
Luca Sbordone,Piercarlo Bonifacio,Piercarlo Bonifacio,Elisabetta Caffau,Hans-Günter Ludwig,Hans-Günter Ludwig,N. T. Behara,N. T. Behara,J. I. González Hernández,J. I. González Hernández,Matthias Steffen,Roger Cayrel,Bernd Freytag,C. van't Veer,Paolo Molaro,Bertrand Plez,T. Sivarani,M. Spite,Francois Spite,Timothy C. Beers,Norbert Christlieb,P. Francois,Vanessa Hill +22 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors presented VLT-UVES Li abundances of 28 halo dwarf stars between [Fe/H] −2.5 and ǫ−3.5.
Journal ArticleDOI
Simulations of stellar convection with CO5BOLD
Bernd Freytag,Matthias Steffen,Hans-Günter Ludwig,Sven Wedemeyer-Böhm,W. Schaffenberger,Oskar Steiner +5 more
TL;DR: The CO5BOLD code described in this article is designed for so-called ''realistic'' simulations that take into account the detailed microphysics under the conditions in solar or stellar surface layers (equation-of-state and optical properties of the matter).
Journal ArticleDOI
An extremely primitive star in the Galactic halo
Elisabetta Caffau,Elisabetta Caffau,Piercarlo Bonifacio,Patrick Francois,Patrick Francois,Luca Sbordone,Lorenzo Monaco,M. Spite,Francois Spite,Hans-Günter Ludwig,Hans-Günter Ludwig,Roger Cayrel,Simone Zaggia,Francois Hammer,Sofia Randich,Paolo Molaro,Vanessa Hill +16 more
TL;DR: It is shown that low-mass stars can be formed at very low metallicity, that is, below the critical value of Z, which implies that the stellar material must have experienced temperatures above two million kelvin in its history, given that this is necessary to destroy lithium.
Journal ArticleDOI
Theoretical amplitudes and lifetimes of non-radial solar-like oscillations in red giants
Marc-Antoine Dupret,Marc-Antoine Dupret,Kevin Belkacem,Kevin Belkacem,R. Samadi,Josefina Montalbán,O. Moreira,Andrea Miglio,Mélanie Godart,Paolo Ventura,Hans-Günter Ludwig,A. Grigahcène,M. J. Goupil,Alfred F. Noels,Elisabetta Caffau +14 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated under what physical circumstances non-radial modes could be observable in red giants; what would be their amplitudes, lifetimes and heights in the power spectrum (PS).
Journal ArticleDOI
Gaia-ESO Survey: The analysis of high-resolution UVES spectra of FGK-type stars
Rodolfo Smiljanic,Andreas Korn,Maria Bergemann,Antonio Frasca,Laura Magrini,Thomas Masseron,Elena Pancino,Gregory R. Ruchti,I. San Roman,Luca Sbordone,S. G. Sousa,Hugo M. Costado,Francesco Damiani,Bengt Edvardsson,A. Hourihane,R. J. Jackson,Jack Lewis,Karin Lind,Gianni Marconi,Ch. Martayan,Lorenzo Monaco,L. Morbidelli,L. Prisinzano,Simone Zaggia +101 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the Gaia-ESO Survey is obtaining high-quality spectroscopic data for about 10^5 stars using FLAMES at the VLT, which are analyzed in parallel by several state-of-the-art methodologies.
