Journal ArticleDOI
Correlation of circular RNA abundance with proliferation--exemplified with colorectal and ovarian cancer, idiopathic lung fibrosis, and normal human tissues.
Anna Bachmayr-Heyda,Agnes T. Reiner,Katharina Auer,Nyamdelger Sukhbaatar,Stefanie Aust,Thomas Bachleitner-Hofmann,Ildiko Mesteri,Thomas W. Grunt,Robert Zeillinger,Dietmar Pils +9 more
TL;DR: The first to report a global reduction of circular RNA abundance in colorectal cancer cell lines and cancer compared to normal tissues is reported and a negative correlation of global circular RNAs abundance and proliferation is discovered.
Journal ArticleDOI
First-Breath-Induced Type 2 Pathways Shape the Lung Immune Environment
Simona Saluzzo,Simona Saluzzo,Simona Saluzzo,Anna-Dorothea Gorki,Anna-Dorothea Gorki,Batika M. J. Rana,Rui Martins,Rui Martins,Seth T. Scanlon,Philipp Starkl,Philipp Starkl,Karin Lakovits,Karin Lakovits,Anastasiya Hladik,Anastasiya Hladik,Ana Korosec,Ana Korosec,Omar Sharif,Omar Sharif,Joanna Warszawska,Joanna Warszawska,Helen E. Jolin,Ildiko Mesteri,Andrew N. J. McKenzie,Sylvia Knapp,Sylvia Knapp +25 more
TL;DR: The homeostatic role of ILC2s in setting the activation threshold in the lung and underline their implications in anti-bacterial defenses are highlighted.
Journal ArticleDOI
Lipocalin 2 deactivates macrophages and worsens pneumococcal pneumonia outcomes.
Joanna Warszawska,Riem Gawish,Omar Sharif,Stefanie Sigel,Bianca Doninger,Karin Lakovits,Ildiko Mesteri,Manfred Nairz,Louis Boon,Alexander O. Spiel,Valentin Fuhrmann,Birgit Strobl,Mathias Müller,Peter Schenk,Günter Weiss,Sylvia Knapp +15 more
TL;DR: It is shown that lipocalin 2 attenuated the early inflammatory response and impaired bacterial clearance, leading to impaired survival of mice suffering from pneumococcal pneumonia, and the role of LCN2 and IL-10 as determinants of macrophage performance in the respiratory tract is highlighted.
Journal ArticleDOI
The methyltransferase Setdb2 mediates virus-induced susceptibility to bacterial superinfection
Christopher Schliehe,Elizabeth K Flynn,Bojan Vilagos,Udochuku Richson,Savitha Swaminathan,Berislav Bošnjak,Lisa Bauer,Richard Kumaran Kandasamy,Isabel M Griesshammer,Lindsay Kosack,Frank Schmitz,Vladimir Litvak,James R. Sissons,Alexander Lercher,Anannya Bhattacharya,Kseniya Khamina,Anna L. Trivett,Lino Tessarollo,Ildiko Mesteri,Anastasiya Hladik,Anastasiya Hladik,Doron Merkler,Stefan Kubicek,Sylvia Knapp,Sylvia Knapp,Michelle M. Epstein,David E. Symer,Alan Aderem,Andreas Bergthaler +28 more
TL;DR: It is reported that Setdb2 was the only protein lysine methyltransferase induced during infection with influenza virus, and a SetDB2-mediated regulatory crosstalk between the type I interferons and NF-κB pathways represents an important mechanism for virus-induced susceptibility to bacterial superinfection.
Journal ArticleDOI
Myeloid PTEN promotes inflammation but impairs bactericidal activities during murine pneumococcal pneumonia.
Gernot Schabbauer,Ulrich Matt,Philipp Günzl,Joanna Warszawska,Tanja Furtner,Eva Hainzl,Immanuel Elbau,Ildiko Mesteri,Bianca Doninger,Bernd R. Binder,Sylvia Knapp +10 more
TL;DR: Together, the absence of myeloid cell-associated PTEN and consecutively enhanced PI3K activity dampened pulmonary inflammation, reduced neutrophil influx, and augmented phagocytic properties of macrophages, which ultimately resulted in decreased tissue injury and improved survival during murine pneumococcal pneumonia.
