Size distribution of particles in Saturn's rings from aggregation and fragmentation
Nikolai V. Brilliantov,Pavel L. Krapivsky,Anna S. Bodrova,Anna S. Bodrova,Frank Spahn,Hisao Hayakawa,Vladimir I. Stadnichuk,J. Schmidt +7 more
TL;DR: It is shown that a power-law size distribution with large-size cutoff, as observed in Saturn’s rings, is universal for systems where a balance between aggregation and disruptive collisions is steadily sustained and expected for any ring system where collisions play a role.
Journal ArticleDOI
Explorer of Enceladus and Titan (E 2 T): Investigating ocean worlds' evolution and habitability in the solar system
Giuseppe Mitri,Frank Postberg,Jason M. Soderblom,Peter Wurz,Paolo Tortora,Bernd Abel,Jason W. Barnes,Marco Berga,Nathalie Carrasco,Athena Coustenis,Jean Pierre Paul de Vera,Andrea D'Ottavio,Francesca Ferri,Alexander Hayes,Paul O. Hayne,Jon K. Hillier,Sascha Kempf,Jean-Pierre Lebreton,Ralph D. Lorenz,Andrea Martelli,Roberto Orosei,Anastassios E. Petropoulos,Kim Reh,J. Schmidt,Christophe Sotin,Ralf Srama,Gabriel Tobie,Audrey Vorburger,Véronique Vuitton,Andre Wong,Marco Zannoni +30 more
TL;DR: The Explorer of Enceladus and Titan (E2T) mission as discussed by the authors was proposed as a medium-class mission led by ESA in collaboration with NASA in response to the M5 Cosmic Vision Call.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: The German cosmic dust analyser (CDA) was developed under the leadership of the Max Planck Institute for Nuclear Physics in Heidelberg under the support of the DLR e.V..
Journal ArticleDOI
Dust Emission by Active Moons
TL;DR: In recent decades, volcanic and cryovolcanic activity on moons within the Solar System has been recognized as an important source of cosmic dust as discussed by the authors, and two moons, Io and Enceladus, are known to be actively emitting dust into circumplanetary and interplanetary space.
Journal ArticleDOI
Science Goals and Mission Objectives for the Future Exploration of Ice Giants Systems: A Horizon 2061 Perspective
Michel Blanc,Michel Blanc,Kathleen Mandt,Olivier Mousis,Nicolas André,Alexis Bouquet,Sébastien Charnoz,Kathleen L. Craft,Magali Deleuil,Léa Griton,Ravit Helled,Ricardo Hueso,L. Lamy,L. Lamy,Corentin Louis,Jonathan I. Lunine,Thomas Ronnet,J. Schmidt,Krista M. Soderlund,Diego Turrini,Elizabeth P. Turtle,Pierre Vernazza,Olivier Witasse +22 more
TL;DR: It is shown that a long-term plan for the space exploration of ice giants and their systems will greatly contribute to answer these questions, and an optimized choice of platforms and flight sequences makes it possible to address a broad range of the key science questions.
