Journal ArticleDOI
HLH-2004: Diagnostic and therapeutic guidelines for hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis.
Jan-Inge Henter,AnnaCarin Horne,Maurizio Aricò,R. Maarten Egeler,Alexandra H. Filipovich,Shinsaku Imashuku,Stephan Ladisch,Kenneth L. McClain,David Webb,Jacek Winiarski,Gritta Janka +10 more
TL;DR: HLH‐2004 chemo‐immunotherapy includes etoposide, dexamethasone, cyclosporine A upfront and, in selected patients, intrathecal therapy with methotrexate and corticosteroids, and subsequent hematopoietic stem cell transplantation is recommended for patients with familial disease or molecular diagnosis, and patients with severe and persistent, or reactivated, disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) load in bone marrow transplant recipients at risk to develop posttransplant lymphoproliferative disease: prophylactic infusion of EBV-specific cytotoxic T cells.
Åsa Gustafsson,Victor Levitsky,Jie Zhi Zou,Teresa Frisan,Tina Dalianis,Per Ljungman,Olle Ringdén,Jacek Winiarski,Ingemar Ernberg,Maria G. Masucci +9 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that prophylactic administration of EBV-CTLs early after BMT appears to provide the most effective protection against the development ofEBV-associated lymphoproliferative disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Defibrotide for prophylaxis of hepatic veno-occlusive disease in paediatric haemopoietic stem-cell transplantation: an open-label, phase 3, randomised controlled trial
Selim Corbacioglu,Simone Cesaro,Maura Faraci,Dominique Valteau-Couanet,Bernd Gruhn,Attilio Rovelli,Jaap Jan Boelens,Annette Hewitt,Johanna Schrum,A. Schulz,Ingo Müller,Jerry Stein,Robert Wynn,Johann Greil,Karl Walter Sykora,Susanne Matthes-Martin,Monika Führer,Anne O'Meara,Jacek Toporski,Petr Sedlacek,Paul G. Schlegel,Karoline Ehlert,Anders Fasth,Jacek Winiarski,Johan Arvidson,Christine Mauz-Körholz,Hulya Ozsahin,André Schrauder,Peter Bader,Joseph M. Massaro,Ralph B. D'Agostino,Margaret Hoyle,Massimo Iacobelli,Klaus-Michael Debatin,Christina Peters,Giorgio Dini +35 more
TL;DR: Defibrotide prophylaxis seems to reduce incidence of veno-occlusive disease and is well tolerated, and could present a useful clinical option for this serious complication of HSCT.
Journal ArticleDOI
Defective cytotoxic lymphocyte degranulation in syntaxin-11 deficient familial hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis 4 (FHL4) patients.
Yenan T. Bryceson,Yenan T. Bryceson,Eva Rudd,Chengyun Y. Zheng,Josefine Edner,Daoxin Ma,Stephanie M. Wood,Stephanie M. Wood,Anne Grete Bechensteen,Jaap Jan Boelens,Tiraje Celkan,Roula Farah,Kjell Hultenby,Jacek Winiarski,Paul A. Roche,Magnus Nordenskjöld,Jan-Inge Henter,Eric O. Long,Hans-Gustav Ljunggren +18 more
TL;DR: It is shown that freshly isolated, resting natural killer (NK) cells and CD8(+) T cells express syntaxin-11, which could explain the less severe disease progression observed in FHL4 patients, compared with FHL2 and FHL3 patients.
Journal ArticleDOI
Haematopoietic stem cell transplantation in haemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis.
AnnaCarin Horne,Gritta Janka,R. Maarten Egeler,Helmut Gadner,Shinsaku Imashuku,Stephan Ladisch,Franco Locatelli,Scott Montgomery,David Webb,Jacek Winiarski,Alexandra H. Filipovich,Jan-Inge Henter +11 more
TL;DR: Most HLH patients survived SCT using MRD or MUD, and survival with partially mismatched donors was also acceptable, and patients that responded well to initial pretransplant‐induction therapy fared best, but some persisting HLH activity should not automatically preclude performing SCT.
