Effect of thinning on surface fluxes in a boreal forest
Timo Vesala,Tanja Suni,Üllar Rannik,Petri Keronen,Tiina Markkanen,Sanna Sevanto,Tiia Grönholm,Sampo Smolander,Markku Kulmala,Hannu Ilvesniemi,R Ojansuu,Antti Uotila,Janne Levula,Annikki Mäkelä,Jukka Pumpanen,Pasi Kolari,Liisa Kulmala,Nuria Altimir,Frank Berninger,Eero Nikinmaa,Pertti Hari +20 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors show that thinning decreases the deposition velocities of fine particles as expected but does not reduce the carbon sink, water vapor flux, or ozone deposition.
Long-term measurements of the carbon balance of a boreal Scots pine dominated forest ecosystem
Hannu Ilvesniemi,Janne Levula,Risto Ojansuu,Pasi Kolari,Liisa Kulmala,Jukka Pumpanen,Samuli Launiainen,Timo Vesala,Eero Nikinmaa +8 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the magnitude and relative importance of different components of the carbon balance of a boreal Scots pine dominated forest ecosystem were measured on annual basis, and the ecosystem was shown to be a carbon sink in all measured years.
Journal ArticleDOI
Interpreting canopy development and physiology using a European phenology camera network at flux sites
Lisa Wingate,Jérôme Ogée,Edoardo Cremonese,Gianluca Filippa,Toshie Mizunuma,Mirco Migliavacca,Christophe Moisy,Matthew Wilkinson,Christine Moureaux,Georg Wohlfahrt,Albin Hammerle,Lukas Hörtnagl,Lukas Hörtnagl,Cristina Gimeno,Albert Porcar-Castell,Marta Galvagno,Tatsuro Nakaji,James I. TL;DR: In this article, a growing observational network of digital cameras installed on towers across Europe above deciduous and evergreen forests, grasslands and croplands, where vegetation and atmosphere CO2 fluxes are measured continuously.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe the background, instrumentation, goals, and the regional influences on the HUMPPA-COPEC intensive field measurement campaign, conducted at the Boreal forest research station SMEAR II (Station for Measuring Ecosystem-Atmosphere Relation) in Hyytiala, Finland from 12 July-12 August 2010.
Journal ArticleDOI
BAECC: A Field Campaign to Elucidate the Impact of Biogenic Aerosols on Clouds and Climate
Tuukka Petäjä,Ewan O'Connor,Dmitri Moisseev,Victoria A. Sinclair,Antti Manninen,Riikka Väänänen,Annakaisa von Lerber,Joel A. Thornton,Keri Nicoll,Walter A. Petersen,Venkatachalam Chandrasekar,James N. Smith,Paul M. TL;DR: The second ARM Mobile Facility (AMF2) was deployed to Hyytiala, Finland, for an 8-month intensive measurement campaign from February to September 2014 as discussed by the authors, where the primary research goal is to understand the role of biogenic aerosols in cloud formation.
