Effect of selenium and vitamin E on risk of prostate cancer and other cancers: the Selenium and Vitamin E Cancer Prevention Trial (SELECT).
Scott M. Lippman,Eric A. Klein,Eric A. Klein,Phyllis J. Goodman,M. Scott Lucia,Ian M. Thompson,Leslie G. Ford,Howard L. Parnes,Lori M. Minasian,J. Michael Gaziano,Jo Ann Hartline,J. Kellogg Parsons,James D. Bearden,E. David Crawford,Gary E. Goodman,Jaime Claudio,Eric Winquist,Elise D. Cook,Daniel D. Karp,Philip J. Walther,Michael M. Lieber,Alan R. Kristal,Amy K. Darke,Kathryn B. Arnold,Patricia A. Ganz,Regina M. Santella,Demetrius Albanes,Philip R. Taylor,Jeffrey L. Probstfield,T. J. Jagpal,John Crowley,Frank L. Meyskens,Laurence H. Baker,Charles A. Coltman +33 more
TL;DR: Selenium or vitamin E, alone or in combination at the doses and formulations used, did not prevent prostate cancer in this population of relatively healthy men.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of long-term vitamin E and selenium supplementation on urine F2-isoprostanes, a biomarker of oxidative stress.
Kristin A. Guertin,Rachael K. Grant,Kathryn B. Arnold,Lindsay S. Burwell,Jo Ann Hartline,Phyllis J. Goodman,Lori M. Minasian,Scott M. Lippman,Eric A. Klein,Patricia A. Cassano +9 more
TL;DR: Long-term vitamin E supplementation decreases urine 8-iso-PGF2α among male cigarette smokers, but there is little to no evidence for an effect of selenium supplementation, alone or combined with vitamin E.
Journal ArticleDOI
Moving a randomized clinical trial into an observational cohort
Phyllis J. Goodman,Jo Ann Hartline,Catherine M. Tangen,John Crowley,Lori M. Minasian,Eric A. Klein,Elise D. Cook,Amy K. Darke,Kathryn B. Arnold,Karen Anderson,Monica Yee,Frank L. Meyskens,Laurence H. Baker +12 more
TL;DR: The transition process from a randomized clinical trial to the observational Centralized Follow-Up (CFU) study is described, which enabled us to collect additional prostate and other cancer endpoints and longer follow-up on the almost 18,000 participants enrolled.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
Effect Of Vitamin E And Selenium On Rate Of Decline In FEV1: The Respiratory Ancillary Study To The Selenium And Vitamin E Cancer Prevention Trial (SELECT)
Patricia A. Cassano,Kristin A. Guertin,Alan R. Kristal,Kathryn B. Arnold,J J. Crowley,Jo Ann Hartline,Phyllis J. Goodman,Catherine M. Tangen,Lori M. Minasian,Scott M. Lippman,E Klein +10 more
Journal ArticleDOI
Opportunities and challenges in incorporating ancillary studies into a cancer prevention randomized clinical trial.
Phyllis J. Goodman,Catherine M. Tangen,Amy K. Darke,Kathryn B. Arnold,Jo Ann Hartline,Monica Yee,Karen Anderson,Allison Caban-Holt,William G. Christen,Patricia A. Cassano,Peter Lance,Eric A. Klein,John Crowley,Lori M. Minasian,Frank L. Meyskens +14 more
TL;DR: The addition of ancillary studies appears to have improved participant adherence to the primary trial, but this did not come without added complexity.
