Expert consensus document: Mitochondrial function as a therapeutic target in heart failure
David Brown,Justin B. Perry,Mitchell E. Allen,Hani N. Sabbah,Hani N. Sabbah,Brian L. Stauffer,Saame Raza Shaikh,John G.F. Cleland,Wilson S. Colucci,Javed Butler,Adriaan A. Voors,Stefan D. Anker,Bertram Pitt,Bertram Pitt,Burkert Pieske,Gerasimos Filippatos,Stephen J. Greene,Mihai Gheorghiade +17 more
TL;DR: In this article, insights into the mechanisms of mitochondrial dysfunction in heart failure are presented, along with an overview of emerging treatments with the potential to improve the function of the failing heart by targeting mitochondria.
Journal ArticleDOI
The cardiolipin-binding peptide elamipretide mitigates fragmentation of cristae networks following cardiac ischemia reperfusion in rats.
Mitchell E. Allen,Edward Ross Pennington,Edward Ross Pennington,Justin B. Perry,Sahil Dadoo,Marina Makrecka-Kuka,Maija Dambrova,Fatiha Moukdar,Hetal D. Patel,Xianlin Han,Grahame K. Kidd,Emily Benson,Tristan B. Raisch,Steven Poelzing,David Brown,Saame Raza Shaikh +15 more
TL;DR: The data suggest mitochondrial structure-function are interdependent and demonstrate elamipretide targets mitochondrial membranes to sustain cristae networks and improve bioenergetic function.
Journal ArticleDOI
Major developmental regulators and their expression in two closely related species of porphyra (rhodophyta)(1).
John W. Stiller,Justin B. Perry,Linda A. Rymarquis,Monica Accerbi,Pamela J. Green,Simon E. Prochnik,Erika Lindquist,Cheong Xin Chan,Charles Yarish,Senjie Lin,Yunyun Zhuang,Nicolas A. Blouin,Susan H. Brawley +12 more
TL;DR: It appears that red algae began with a similar molecular toolkit for directing development as did other multicellular eukaryotes, but probably evolved altered roles for many key proteins, as well as novel mechanisms yet to be discovered.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cardioprotective Effects of Mitochondria-Targeted Peptide SBT-20 in two Different Models of Rat Ischemia/Reperfusion
Wangde Dai,Wangde Dai,Elissa Cheung,Rick J. Alleman,Justin B. Perry,Mitchell E. Allen,David Brown,Robert A. Kloner,Robert A. Kloner +8 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of mitochondria-targeted cytoprotective peptide SBT-20 on myocardial infarct size in two different models of ischemia/reperfusion were investigated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Bioenergetics underlying single-cell migration on aligned nanofiber scaffolds.
Abinash Padhi,Alexander H. Thomson,Justin B. Perry,Grace N. Davis,Ryan P. McMillan,Sandra Loesgen,Elizabeth N. Kaweesa,Rakesh K. Kapania,Amrinder S. Nain,David Brown +9 more
TL;DR: The evaluated bioenergetics of C2C12 myoblast migration and force production on fibronectin-coated nanofiber scaffolds of controlled diameter and alignment fabricated using non-electrospinning spinneret-based tunable engineered parameters (STEP) platform suggest that myOBlast migration is heavily reliant on glycolysis in cells grown in conventional media.
