TL;DR: The Spitzer Survey of Stellar Structure in Galaxies (S^4G) as mentioned in this paper is a collection of 2331 galaxies using the Infrared Array Camera (IRAC) at 3.6 and 4.5 μm.
Journal ArticleDOI
A Near-Infrared Study of 2MASS Bars in Local Galaxies: An Anchor for High-Redshift Studies
TL;DR: In this paper, the fraction of bars in nearby spiral galaxies using near-infrared J, H, and Ks images of 151 spiral galaxies from 2MASS was measured by analyzing the full two-dimensional light distribution and requiring a combined ellipticity and position angle signature.
Journal ArticleDOI
The spitzer survey of stellar structure in galaxies (S^4G): multi-component decomposition strategies and data release
Heikki Salo,Eija Laurikainen,Eija Laurikainen,Jarkko Laine,Sébastien Comerón,Sébastien Comerón,Dimitri A. Gadotti,Ron Buta,Kartik Sheth,Dennis Zaritsky,Luis C. Ho,Johan H. Knapen,Johan H. Knapen,E. Mizusawa,T. Mizusawa,Santiago Erroz-Ferrer,Santiago Erroz-Ferrer,Sharon E. Meidt,Miguel Querejeta +30 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present human-supervised multi-component decompositions, which include, when judged appropriate, a central point source, bulge, disk, and bar components.
Journal ArticleDOI
Reconstructing the stellar mass distributions of galaxies using S4G IRAC 3.6 and 4.5 μm images. II. The conversion from light to mass.
Sharon E. Meidt,Eva Schinnerer,Glenn van de Ven,Dennis Zaritsky,Reynier Peletier,Johan H. Knapen,Johan H. Knapen,Kartik Sheth,Michael W. Regan,Miguel Querejeta,Juan Carlos Muñoz-Mateos,Taehyun Kim,J. TL;DR: In this article, a new approach for estimating the 3.6 μm stellar mass-to-light (M/L) ratio Υ_3.6 was presented, which avoids several of the largest sources of uncertainty in existing techniques using population synthesis models.
Journal ArticleDOI
A Classical Morphological Analysis of Galaxies in the Spitzer Survey of Stellar Structure in Galaxies (S4G)
Ron Buta,Kartik Sheth,E. Athanassoula,Albert Bosma,J. H. Knapen,Eija Laurikainen,Heikki Salo,Debra Meloy Elmegreen,Luis C. Ho,Dennis Zaritsky,Hélène M. Courtois,J. L. Hinz,J. C.
