Journal ArticleDOI
Epidemiology of the human circadian clock.
Till Roenneberg,Tim Kuehnle,Myriam Juda,Thomas Kantermann,Karla V. Allebrandt,Marijke C. M. Gordijn,Martha Merrow,Martha Merrow +7 more
TL;DR: An algorithm is established which optimises chronotype assessment by incorporating the information on timing of sleep and wakefulness for both work and free days, because sleep duration strongly depends on chronotype.
Journal ArticleDOI
Social Jetlag and Obesity
TL;DR: The results demonstrate that living "against the clock" may be a factor contributing to the epidemic of obesity, and suggest that improving the correspondence between biological and social clocks will contribute to the management of obesity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Depression Scores Associate With Chronotype and Social Jetlag in a Rural Population
Rosa Maria Levandovski,Giovana Dantas,Luciana Carvalho Fernandes,Wolnei Caumo,Iraci Lucena da Silva Torres,Till Roenneberg,Maria Paz Loayza Hidalgo,Karla V. Allebrandt +7 more
TL;DR: The results indicate that misalignment of circadian and social time may be a risk factor for developing depression, especially in 31- to 40-yr-olds, and these relationships should be further investigated in longitudinal studies to reveal if reduction of social jetlag should be part of prevention strategies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genome-wide association analyses of chronotype in 697,828 individuals provides insights into circadian rhythms.
Samuel E. Jones,Jacqueline M. Lane,Jacqueline M. Lane,Andrew R. Wood,Vincent T. van Hees,Jessica Tyrrell,Robin N Beaumont,Aaron R. Jeffries,Hassan S. Dashti,Hassan S. Dashti,Melvyn Hillsdon,Katherine S. Ruth,Marcus A. Tuke,Hanieh Yaghootkar,Seth A. Sharp,Yingjie Jie,William D. Thompson,Jamie W. Harrison,Amy Dawes,Enda M. Byrne,Henning Tiemeier,Karla V. Allebrandt,Jack Bowden,David W. Ray,Rachel M. Freathy,Anna Murray,Diego R. Mazzotti,Philip R. Gehrman,Debbie A Lawlor,Timothy M. Frayling,Martin K. Rutter,David A. Hinds,Richa Saxena,Richa Saxena,Michael N. Weedon +34 more
TL;DR: It is shown that being a morning person is causally associated with better mental health but does not affect BMI or risk of Type 2 diabetes, and the chronotype loci associate with sleep timing.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genome-Wide Association Analyses in 128,266 Individuals Identifies New Morningness and Sleep Duration Loci.
Samuel E. Jones,Jessica Tyrrell,Andrew R. Wood,Robin N Beaumont,Katherine S. Ruth,Marcus A. Tuke,Hanieh Yaghootkar,Youna Hu,Maris Teder-Laving,Caroline Hayward,Till Roenneberg,James F. Wilson,James F. Wilson,Fabiola M. Del Greco,Andrew A. Hicks,Chol Shin,Chang-Ho Yun,Seung Ku Lee,Andres Metspalu,Enda M. Byrne,Philip R. Gehrman,Henning Tiemeier,Karla V. Allebrandt,Rachel M. Freathy,Anna Murray,David A. Hinds,Timothy M. Frayling,Michael N. Weedon +27 more
TL;DR: The total number of loci associated with chronotype to 22 and with sleep duration to three, and provides new insights into the biology of sleep and circadian rhythms in humans, are brought to light.
