Journal ArticleDOI
Gene variants influencing measures of inflammation or predisposing to autoimmune and inflammatory diseases are not associated with the risk of type 2 diabetes
Sajjad Rafiq,David Melzer,Michael N. Weedon,Hana Lango,Richa Saxena,Richa Saxena,Laura J. Scott,Colin N. A. Palmer,Andrew D. Morris,Mark I. McCarthy,L Ferrucci,Andrew T. Hattersley,Eleftheria Zeggini,Timothy M. Frayling +13 more
TL;DR: This study provided no evidence that variants known to alter measures of inflammation, autoimmune or inflammatory disease risk, including type 1 diabetes, alter type 2 diabetes risk.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Genetic Architecture of Depression in Individuals of East Asian Ancestry: A Genome-Wide Association Study
Olga Giannakopoulou,Kuang Lin,Xiangrui Meng,Mei-Hsin Su,Po-Hsiu Kuo,Roseann E. Peterson,Swapnil Awasthi,Arden Moscati,Jonathan R. I. Coleman,Jonathan R. I. Coleman,Nick Bass,Iona Y Millwood,Yiping Chen,Zhengming Chen,Hsi-Chung Chen,Mong Liang Lu,Ming-Chyi Huang,Chun-Hsin Chen,Eli A. Stahl,Ruth J. F. Loos,Niamh Mullins,Robert J. Ursano,Ronald C. Dunn,Kenneth S. Kendler,Robin G. Walters,Cathryn M. Lewis,Cathryn M. Lewis,Karoline Kuchenbaecker +41 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the genetics of depression among individuals of East Asian and European descent living in different geographic locations, and with different outcome definitions for depression, and found that depression risk was negatively genetically correlated with body mass index in individuals of east Asian descent.
Journal ArticleDOI
An efficient resampling method for calibrating single and gene-based rare variant association analysis in case–control studies
TL;DR: Based on the observation that only the individuals containing minor alleles contribute to the score statistics, an efficient resampling method is developed for single and multiple variant score-based tests that can adjust for covariates and is ameliorated through the use of mid-p-values.
Journal ArticleDOI
Exome sequencing in bipolar disorder identifies AKAP11 as a risk gene shared with schizophrenia
Duncan S. Palmer,Daniel P. Howrigan,Sinéad B. Chapman,Rolf Adolfsson,Nicholas Bass,Douglas Blackwood,Marco P. Stahl,Annabel Vreeker,James T.R. Walters,Weiqing Wang,Nicholas A. Watts,R.T Yolken,Peter P. Zandi,Benjamin M. Neale +46 more
TL;DR: In this article , the authors report results from the Bipolar exome (BipEx) collaboration analysis of whole-exome sequencing of 13,933 patients with bipolar disorder matched with 14,422 controls, finding an excess of ultra-rare protein-truncating variants (PTVs) in patients with BD among genes under strong evolutionary constraint in both major BD subtypes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Allelic expression imbalance at high-density lipoprotein cholesterol locus MMAB-MVK
TL;DR: Data suggest MMAB is the most likely gene influencing HDL-C levels at this locus and demonstrate that measuring AEI at loci containing more than one candidate gene can prioritize genes for functional studies.
