Bruce M. Campbell,Bruce M. Campbell,Philip K. Thornton,Robert B. Zougmoré,Piet J.A. van Asten,Leslie Lipper +5 more
TL;DR: In this article, sustainable intensification and climate-smart agriculture (CSA) are complementary, with the emphasis on improving risk management, information flows and local institutions to support adaptive capacity, which provides the foundations for incentivizing and enabling intensification.
Journal ArticleDOI
Payments for ecosystem services and poverty reduction: concepts, issues, and empirical perspectives
TL;DR: Payments for ecosystem services (PES) as mentioned in this paper is a recent policy innovation attracting much attention in both developed and developing countries, aiming to harness market forces to obtain more efficient environmental outcomes.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: The Global Science Conference on Climate-Smart Agriculture (GSCA) as discussed by the authors focused on contributing to economic development, poverty reduction and food security; maintaining and enhancing the productivity and resilience of natural and agricultural ecosystem functions, thus building natural capital; and reducing trade-offs involved in meeting these goals.
Journal ArticleDOI
Food security, climate change, and sustainable land management. A review
TL;DR: In this article, the authors review 160 studies reporting original field data on the yield effects of sustainable land management practices sequestering soil carbon, and find that the major points are: (1) sustainability land management generally leads to increased yields, although the magnitude and variability of results varies by specific practice and agro-climatic conditions.
