Genome-wide association study identifies five loci associated with lung function.

Emmanouela Repapi, +109 more
- 01 Jan 2010 -
TL;DR: Genome-wide association with forced expiratory volume in 1 s (FEV1) and the ratio of FEV1 to forced vital capacity (FVC) in the SpiroMeta consortium offers mechanistic insight into pulmonary function regulation and indicate potential targets for interventions to alleviate respiratory disease.
Journal ArticleDOI

Physical activity reduces the influence of genetic effects on BMI and waist circumference: a study in young adult twins.

TL;DR: Physically active subjects were leaner than sedentary ones, and physical activity reduced the influence of genetic factors to develop high BMI and WC, which suggests that the individuals at greatest genetic risk for obesity would benefit the most from physical activity.
Journal ArticleDOI

Acquired obesity and poor physical fitness impair expression of genes of mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation in monozygotic twins discordant for obesity.

TL;DR: The obese cotwins had lower insulin sensitivity than their nonobese counterparts and were also less fit, as measured by Vo(2max) and working capacity, which implies that acquired poor physical fitness is associated with defective expression of the oxidative pathway components in adipose tissue mitochondria.
