Journal ArticleDOI
Development of a new generation of high-resolution anatomical models for medical device evaluation: the Virtual Population 3.0
Marie-Christine Gosselin,Esra Neufeld,Heidi Moser,Eveline Huber,Silvia Farcito,Livia Gerber,Maria Jedensjö,Isabel Hilber,Fabienne Di Gennaro,Bryn A. Lloyd,Emilio Cherubini,Dominik Szczerba,Wolfgang Kainz,Niels Kuster +13 more
TL;DR: The research and development performed to obtain anatomical models that meet the requirements necessary for medical implant safety assessment applications are described, including implementation of quality control procedures, re-segmentation at higher resolution, more-consistent tissue assignments, enhanced surface processing and numerous anatomical refinements.
Journal ArticleDOI
Long-term decline in survival and reproduction of dolphins following a marine heatwave.
Sonja Wild,Sonja Wild,Michael Krützen,R.W. Rankin,R.W. Rankin,William Hoppitt,Livia Gerber,Simon Allen,Simon Allen,Simon Allen +9 more
TL;DR: Overall, however, lower survival has persisted post-heatwave, suggesting that habitat loss following extreme weather events may have prolonged, negative impacts on even behaviourally flexible, higher-trophic level predators.
Journal ArticleDOI
Affiliation history and age similarity predict alliance formation in adult male bottlenose dolphins
Livia Gerber,Richard C. Connor,Stephanie L. King,Stephanie L. King,Simon Allen,Simon Allen,Samuel Wittwer,Manuela R. Bizzozzero,Whitney R. Friedman,Whitney R. Friedman,Stephanie Kalberer,William B. Sherwin,Sonja Wild,Sonja Wild,Erik P. Willems,Michael Krützen +15 more
TL;DR: It is found that social bonds among peers, rather than kinship, play a central role in the development of adult male polyadic cooperation in dolphins, and the vast majority of social bonds present in adolescence persisted through time.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genetic isolation between coastal and fishery-impacted, offshore bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops spp.) populations.
Simon Allen,Simon Allen,Kate A. Bryant,Robert H. S. Kraus,Robert H. S. Kraus,Neil R. Loneragan,Anna M. Kopps,Anna M. Kopps,Alex Brown,Livia Gerber,Michael Krützen +10 more
TL;DR: This study evaluated the species status and genetic connectedness of bottlenose dolphin populations off remote northwestern Australia, with a focus on pelagic ‘offshore’ dolphins subject to incidental capture in a trawl fishery, taking evolutionary processes into account for informing the conservation and management of protected species.
Journal ArticleDOI
Multi-network-based diffusion analysis reveals vertical cultural transmission of sponge tool use within dolphin matrilines.
Sonja Wild,Sonja Wild,Simon Allen,Michael Krützen,Stephanie L. King,Livia Gerber,William Hoppitt,William Hoppitt +7 more
TL;DR: The importance of social learning on the diffusion of sponging is quantified, for the first time explicitly accounting for ecological and genetic factors, using a multi-network version of ‘network-based diffusion analysis'.
