Journal ArticleDOI
The encephalomyocarditis virus
TL;DR: The biology of EMCV and all known and potential virulence factors are highlighted and progress on xenografts, such as pig heart transplantation in humans, has raised safety concerns that need to be explored.
Journal ArticleDOI
Zika virus enhances monocyte adhesion and transmigration favoring viral dissemination to neural cells.
Nilda Vanesa Ayala-Nunez,Nilda Vanesa Ayala-Nunez,Gautier Follain,François Delalande,Aurélie Hirschler,Emma Partiot,Gillian Hale,Brigid C. Bollweg,Judith R.E. Roels,Maxime Chazal,Florian Bakoa,Margot Carocci,Sandrine Bourdoulous,Orestis Faklaris,Sherif R. Zaki,Anita Eckly,Béatrice Uring-Lambert,Frédéric Doussau,Sarah Cianférani,Christine Carapito,Frank M. J. Jacobs,Nolwenn Jouvenet,Jacky G. Goetz,Raphael Gaudin,Raphael Gaudin +24 more
TL;DR: It is shown in ex vivo and in vivo models that ZIKV can hitch a ride in monocytes in a Trojan Horse manner to cross the endothelium and disseminate the virus.
Journal ArticleDOI
Multitarget, quantitative nanoplasmonic electrical field-enhanced resonating device (NE2RD) for diagnostics.
Fatih Inci,Chiara Filippini,Murat Baday,Mehmet Ozgun Ozen,Semih Calamak,Naside Gozde Durmus,ShuQi Wang,Emily Hanhauser,Kristen S. Hobbs,Franceline Juillard,Ping Ping Kuang,Michael Vetter,Margot Carocci,Hidemi S. Yamamoto,Yuko Takagi,Umit Hakan Yildiz,Demir Akin,Duane R. Wesemann,Duane R. Wesemann,Amit Singhal,Priscilla L. Davis,Utkan Demirci +31 more
TL;DR: The nanoplasmonic electrical field-enhanced resonating device (NE2RD) is demonstrated, a label-free, quantitative, portable, multitarget platform by rapidly detecting various protein biomarkers, drugs, protein allergens, bacteria, eukaryotic cells, and distinct viruses.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Bioactive Lipid 4-Hydroxyphenyl Retinamide Inhibits Flavivirus Replication
Margot Carocci,Stephen M. Hinshaw,Mary A. Rodgers,Valerie A. Villareal,Dominique J. Burri,Rajendra Pilankatta,Natalya P. Maharaj,Michaela U. Gack,Eric Stavale,Kelly L. Warfield,Priscilla L. Yang +10 more
TL;DR: DENV is insensitive to the perturbation of long-chain ceramides in mammalian cell culture and that the effect of 4-HPR on dihydroceramide homeostasis is separable from its antiviral activity, illustrating the utility of bioactive lipid screens for identifying critical interactions of DENV and other viral pathogens with host lipid biosynthesis, metabolism, and signal transduction.
Journal ArticleDOI
Identification and Characterization of a Novel Broad-Spectrum Virus Entry Inhibitor
Yi-ying Chou,Yi-ying Chou,Christian D. Cuevas,Margot Carocci,Sarah H. Stubbs,Minghe Ma,David K. Cureton,David K. Cureton,Luke H. Chao,Frances Evesson,Frances Evesson,Kangmin He,Kangmin He,Priscilla L. Yang,Sean P. J. Whelan,Susan R. Ross,Tom Kirchhausen,Tom Kirchhausen,Raphael Gaudin,Raphael Gaudin +19 more
TL;DR: New cell culture models in which the cells are susceptible to Junin virus infection are described and CRISPR-Cas9 genome engineering strategies are applied to help characterize early steps during virus entry, finding ZCL278 to be a new antiviral small molecule that potently inhibits the cellular entry of the Juninirus and other enveloped viruses.
