Journal ArticleDOI
Susceptibility to human type 1 diabetes at IDDM2 is determined by tandem repeat variation at the insulin gene minisatellite locus
Simon T. Bennett,Anneke Lucassen,S C Gough,Elizabeth E. Powell,Dag E. Undlien,L E Pritchard,Marilyn E. Merriman,Y Kawaguchi,M J Dronsfield,M J Dronsfield,Flemming Pociot +10 more
TL;DR: Although it is shown that the insulin gene is expressed biallelically in the adult pancreas, it is presented preliminary evidence that the level of transcription in vivo is correlated with allelic variation within the VNTR.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genome-wide association study identifies new multiple sclerosis susceptibility loci on chromosomes 12 and 20
Melanie Bahlo,David R. Booth,Simon A. Broadley,Matthew A. Brown,Matthew A. Brown,Simon J. Foote,Lyn R. Griffiths,Trevor J. Kilpatrick,Trevor J. Kilpatrick,Jeanette Lechner-Scott,Pablo Moscato,Victoria M. Perreau,Justin P. Rubio,Rodney J. Scott,Rodney J. Scott,Jim Stankovich,Graeme J. Stewart,Bruce V. Taylor,James S. Pender,Mark Slee,Niall Tubridy,Ernest Willoughby +53 more
TL;DR: To identify multiple sclerosis (MS) susceptibility loci, a genome-wide association study in 1,618 cases and used shared data for 3,413 controls and observed a statistical interaction between SNPs in EVI5-RPL5 and HLA-DR15.
Journal ArticleDOI
A search for type 1 diabetes susceptibility genes in families from the United Kingdom
Charles A. Mein,Laura Esposito,Michael G. Dunn,Gillian C.L. Johnson,Andrew E. Timms,Juliet V. Goy,Annabel N. Smith,Liam Sebag-Montefiore,Marilyn E. Merriman,Amanda Wilson,L E Pritchard,Francesco Cucca,Anthony H. Barnett,Stephen C. Bain,John A. Todd +14 more
TL;DR: A genome-wide scan of 93 affected sibpair families from the UK indicated a similar genetic basis for human type 1 diabetes, with the major genetic component at the MHC locus (IDDM1) explaining 34% of the familial clustering of the disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evidence for an influence of chemokine ligand 3-like 1 (CCL3L1) gene copy number on susceptibility to rheumatoid arthritis
Cushla McKinney,Marilyn E. Merriman,Peter T. Chapman,Peter Gow,Andrew A. Harrison,John Highton,Peter B. Jones,Lachy McLean,John L. O'Donnell,Violetta Pokorny,Myfanwy Spellerberg,Lisa K. Stamp,Jinny Willis,Sophia Steer,Tony R. Merriman +14 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors measured CCL3L1 copy-number in 1136 RA cases from New Zealand (NZ) and the UK, 252 NZ T1D cases and a total of 1470 controls.
Journal ArticleDOI
Role of the urate transporter SLC2A9 gene in susceptibility to gout in New Zealand Māori, Pacific Island, and Caucasian case-control sample sets.
Jade E Hollis-Moffatt,Xin Xu,Nicola Dalbeth,Marilyn E. Merriman,Ruth Topless,Chloe Waddell,Peter Gow,Andrew A. Harrison,John Highton,Peter B. Jones,Lisa K. Stamp,Tony R. Merriman +11 more
TL;DR: A role of SLC2A9 in gout susceptibility in a New Zealand Caucasian sample set is confirmed, with the effect on risk greater than previous estimates and more extensive linkage disequilibrium in Māori and Pacific Island samples suggests that Caucasian samples may be more useful for fine-mapping.
