Journal ArticleDOI
Patterns of Failure Following Treatment for Glioblastoma Multiforme and Anaplastic Astrocytoma
TL;DR: The findings support the use of partial brain irradiation for post-operative treatment of glioblastoma multiforme and anaplastic astrocytomas, and may help to determine the most appropriate treatment volume for interstitial irradiation.
Journal ArticleDOI
NovoTTF-100A versus physician’s choice chemotherapy in recurrent glioblastoma: A randomised phase III trial of a novel treatment modality
Roger Stupp,Eric T. Wong,Andrew A. Kanner,David M. Steinberg,Herbert H. Engelhard,Volkmar Heidecke,Eilon D. Kirson,Sophie Taillibert,Frank Liebermann,Vladimír Dbalý,Zvi Ram,J. Lee Villano,Nikolai G. Rainov,Uri Weinberg,David Schiff,Lara Kunschner,Jeffrey J. Raizer,Jérôme Honnorat,Andrew E. Sloan,Mark G. Malkin,Joseph Landolfi,F. Payer,Maximilian Mehdorn,Robert J. Weil,Susan C. Pannullo,Manfred Westphal,Martin Smrčka,Lawrence S. Chin,Herwig Kostron,Silvia Hofer,Jeffrey N. Bruce,Rees Cosgrove,Nina Paleologous,Yoram Palti,Philip H. Gutin +34 more
TL;DR: No improvement in overall survival was demonstrated, however efficacy and activity with this chemotherapy-free treatment device appears comparable to chemotherapy regimens that are commonly used for recurrent glioblastoma.
Journal ArticleDOI
Handheld Cellular Telephone Use and Risk of Brain Cancer
Joshua E. Muscat,Mark G. Malkin,Seth Thompson,Roy E. Shore,Steven D. Stellman,Don McRee,Alfred I. Neugut,Ernst L. Wynder +7 more
TL;DR: The data suggest that use of handheld cellular telephones is not associated with risk of brain cancer, but further studies are needed to account for longer induction periods, especially for slow-growing tumors with neuronal features.
Journal ArticleDOI
Validation of functional diffusion maps (fDMs) as a biomarker for human glioma cellularity.
Benjamin M. Ellingson,Mark G. Malkin,Scott D. Rand,Jennifer Connelly,Carolyn Quinsey,Peter S. LaViolette,D. P. Bedekar,Kathleen M. Schmainda +7 more
TL;DR: To present comprehensive examinations of the assumptions made in functional diffusion map (fDM) analyses and provide a biological basis for fDM classification.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Brain Tumor Cooperative Group NIH Trial 87-01: a randomized comparison of surgery, external radiotherapy, and carmustine versus surgery, interstitial radiotherapy boost, external radiation therapy, and carmustine.
Robert G. Selker,William R. Shapiro,Peter C. Burger,Margaret S. Blackwood,Melvin Deutsch,Vincent C. Arena,John C. Van Gilder,Julian Wu,Mark G. Malkin,John Mealey,John H. Neal,Jeffrey J. Olson,James T. Robertson,Gene H. Barnett,Stephen M. Bloomfield,Robert E. Albright,Fred H. Hochberg,Emile M. Hiesiger,Sylvan B. Green,Philip H. Gutin,James T. Rutka,Jay S. Loeffler,Peter McL. Black,Susan M. Chang,Kathleen R. Lamborn,Penny K. Sneed,Mitchel S. Berger,Joseph M. Piepmeier,Raymond Sawaya +28 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that there is no long-term survival advantage of increased radiation dose with (125)I seeds in newly diagnosed glioma patients.
