Journal ArticleDOI
Chronic perinatal pain as a risk factor for postpartum depression symptoms in Canadian women.
TL;DR: Mothers reporting persistent perinatal pain are at increased risk of developing postpartum depression, and pain control services for these women may be needed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evidence from a large U.K. family collection that genes influencing age of onset of type 2 diabetes map to chromosome 12p and to the MODY3/NIDDM2 locus on 12q24.
Steven Wiltshire,Timothy M. Frayling,Christopher J. Groves,Jonathan C. Levy,Graham A. Hitman,Mike Sampson,Mark Walker,Stephan Menzel,Andrew T. Hattersley,Lon R. Cardon,Mark I. McCarthy +10 more
TL;DR: The reanalysis of data from 573 U.K. sibships ascertained for multiplex type 2 diabetes, using age at onset (assessed by the proxy measure of age at diagnosis) as the phenotype of interest, provides additional evidence that genes mapping to these chromosomal regions are involved in the susceptibility to, and/or development of, type 1 diabetes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Association Studies of Insulin Receptor Substrate 1 Gene (IRS1) Variants in Type 2 Diabetes Samples Enriched for Family History and Early Age of Onset
Eleftheria Zeggini,James R.C. Parkinson,Stephanie Halford,Katharine R. Owen,Timothy M. Frayling,Mark Walker,Graham A. Hitman,Jonathan C. Levy,Mike Sampson,Edith J. M. Feskens,Andrew T. Hattersley,Mark I. McCarthy +11 more
TL;DR: Genotyping the P512A and G971R IRS1 variants in 971 U.K. type 2 diabetic subjects ascertained for strong family history and/or early onset suggested no evidence for association with type 2 diabetes for either variant.
Journal ArticleDOI
Folic Acid Supplementation in Pregnancy and the Risk of Pre-Eclampsia-A Cohort Study.
Shi Wu Wen,Yanfang Guo,Yanfang Guo,Marc A. Rodger,Ruth Rennicks White,Ruth Rennicks White,Qiuying Yang,Graeme N. Smith,Sherry L. Perkins,Mark Walker,Mark Walker +10 more
TL;DR: Folic acid supplementation in pregnancy may reduce PE risk in pregnant women, especially in those women with increased risk of developing PE.
Journal ArticleDOI
Beta‐Blockers increase the risk of being born small for gestational age or of being institutionalised during infancy
Ri-hua Xie,Yanfang Guo,Daniel Krewski,Donald R. Mattison,Mark Walker,Mark Walker,Kara Nerenberg,Shi Wu Wen +7 more
TL;DR: To compare infant outcomes between mothers with hypertension treated by beta‐blockers alone and by methyldopa alone during pregnancy, using data from England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland is chosen.
