Journal ArticleDOI

Impaired beta cell glucose sensitivity and whole-body insulin sensitivity as predictors of hyperglycaemia in non-diabetic subjects

TL;DR: Impaired pancreatic beta cell glucose sensing and whole-body insulin sensitivity predict progression to hyperglycaemia, override the importance of the clinical risk factors and highlight potential metabolic targets for prevention strategies.
Journal ArticleDOI

The variable number of tandem repeats upstream of the insulin gene is a susceptibility locus for latent autoimmune diabetes in adults.

TL;DR: It is established that variation within the insulin gene region does influence susceptibility to LADA, with the direction and magnitude of effect indistinguishable from that previously reported for type 1 diabetes.
Journal ArticleDOI

A Low-Frequency Inactivating AKT2 Variant Enriched in the Finnish Population Is Associated With Fasting Insulin Levels and Type 2 Diabetes Risk

Alisa K. Manning, +312 more
- 01 Jul 2017 -
TL;DR: The allelic spectrum for coding variants in AKT2 associated with disorders of glucose homeostasis is extended and bidirectional effects of variants within the pleckstrin homology domain ofAKT2 are demonstrated.
Journal ArticleDOI

Comparison of maternal risk factors between placental abruption and placenta previa.

TL;DR: The effects of maternal age, race, parity, and previous cesarean section were stronger on placenta previa than on placental abruption, and the effects of cigarette smoking, alcohol drinking, and prenatal care were stronger.
