Journal ArticleDOI
Reversal of left ventricular dilatation, hypertrophy, and dysfunction by valve replacement in aortic regurgitation.
Mary J. Roman,Lisa Klein,Richard B. Devereux,Paul Kligfield,Nathaniel W. Niles,Clare Hochreiter,O. Wayne Isom,Jeffrey S. Borer +7 more
TL;DR: In conclusion, aortic valve replacement resulted in normalizedleft ventricular chamber size and mass in two thirds of the patients selected for operation by current criteria; favorable geometric outcome is associated with persistence or recovery of normal left ventricular function.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cardiac geometry and function in diabetic or prediabetic adolescents and young adults: the Strong Heart Study.
Marina De Marco,Giovanni de Simone,Mary J. Roman,Marcello Chinali,Elisa T. Lee,Darren Calhoun,Barbara V. Howard,Richard B. Devereux +7 more
TL;DR: In a population of adolescents and young adults, DM is independently associated with early unfavorable cardiovascular phenotype characterized by increased left ventricular mass, concentric geometry, and early preclinical systolic and diastolic dysfunction; early cardiovascular alterations are also present in participants with prediabetes.
Journal ArticleDOI
International consensus statement on nomenclature and classification of the congenital bicuspid aortic valve and its aortopathy, for clinical, surgical, interventional and research purposes.

TL;DR: The International Consensus Classification and Nomenclature for the congenital bicuspid aortic valve condition recognizes 3 types of bicusid valves: 1. The fused type (right-left cusp fusion, right-non-coronary cus fusion and left-noncoronaries cusp fused phenotypes); 2. The 2-sinus type (latero-lateral and antero-posterior phenotypes), and 3.
Journal ArticleDOI
Chronic arsenic exposure and risk of carotid artery disease: The Strong Heart Study.
Farrah J. Mateen,Maria Grau-Perez,Jonathan Pollak,Katherine A. Moon,Barbara V. Howard,Jason G. Umans,Lyle G. Best,Kevin A. Francesconi,Walter Goessler,Ciprian M. Crainiceanu,Eliseo Guallar,Richard B. Devereux,Mary J. Roman,Ana Navas-Acien +13 more
TL;DR: Urine arsenic was positively associated with CIMT and increased plaque score later in life although the association was small, and arsenic exposure may play a role in increasing the severity of carotid vascular disease.
