Relationship of Nocturnal Wakefulness to Suicide Risk Across Months and Methods of Suicide
Andrew S. Tubbs,Michael L. Perlis,Mathias Basner,Subhajit Chakravorty,Waliuddin Khader,Fabian Fernandez,Michael A. Grandner +6 more
TL;DR: Regardless of month or method, the incidence risk of suicide at night is higher than at any other time of day, and demographic subgroups did not differentially experience higher risks across months or mechanisms at night.
Journal ArticleDOI
Arousal threshold determination in 1862: Kohlschütter´s Measurements on the Firmness of Sleep
TL;DR: Kohlschutter was the first to systematically investigate the change of awakening thresholds across the night, generating a sleep depth curve for his 1862 dissertation "Measurements on the Firmness of Sleep".
Journal ArticleDOI
Impact of simulated military operational stress on executive function relative to trait resilience, aerobic fitness, and neuroendocrine biomarkers
Meaghan E. Beckner,William R. Conkright,Shawn R. Eagle,Brian J. Martin,Aaron M. Sinnott,Alice D. LaGoy,Felix Proessl,Mita Lovalekar,Leslie R. Jabloner,Peter G. Roma,Mathias Basner,Fabio Ferrarelli,Anne Germain,Shawn D. Flanagan,Chris Connaboy,Bradley C. Nindl +15 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the impact of simulated military operational stress (SMOS) on executive function, in addition to the role of trait resilience (RES) and aerobic fitness (FIT), was investigated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Development of the individualised Comparative Effectiveness of Models Optimizing Patient Safety and Resident Education (iCOMPARE) trial: a protocol summary of a national cluster-randomised trial of resident duty hour policies in internal medicine.
Judy A. Shea,Jeffrey H. Silber,Sanjay V. Desai,David F. Dinges,Lisa M. Bellini,James Tonascia,Alice L. Sternberg,Dylan S. Small,David M. Shade,Joel T. Katz,Mathias Basner,Krisda H. Chaiyachati,Krisda H. Chaiyachati,Orit Even-Shoshan,David W. Bates,Kevin G. Volpp,Kevin G. Volpp,David A. Asch,David A. Asch +18 more
TL;DR: The objective is to prospectively evaluate the implications of alternative resident duty hour rules for patient safety, trainee education and intern sleep and alertness in US internal medicine training programmes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cognitive and Neurophysiological Recovery Following Electroconvulsive Therapy: A Study Protocol.
Ben J.A. Palanca,Hannah R. Maybrier,Angela M. Mickle,Nuri B. Farber,R. Edward Hogan,Emma R. Trammel,J. Wylie Spencer,Donald D. Bohnenkamp,Troy S. Wildes,ShiNung Ching,ShiNung Ching,Eric J. Lenze,Mathias Basner,Max B. Kelz,Michael S. Avidan +14 more
TL;DR: This innovative research design will answer whether time to return of responsiveness will be prolonged withketamine + ECT compared with ketamine + sham ECT and whether the sequence of reconstitution of cognitive domains following the three treatments in this study is similar to that occurring after an isoflurane general anesthetic.
