How many bird and mammal extinctions has recent conservation action prevented

Friederike C. Bolam, +52 more
- 12 Feb 2020 -
TL;DR: It is found that conservation prevented 21–32 bird and 7–16 mammal extinctions since 1993, and 9–18 bird and 2–7 mammal extinction since 2010, and future biodiversity action needs to be scaled up to avert additional extinctions.

Microbial reduction of iron ore

TL;DR: In this paper, a process for reducing iron ore by treatment with microorganisms is described, which comprises forming an aqueous mixture of iron ore, microorganisms operable for reducing the ferric iron of the iron ore to ferrous iron, and a substrate operable as an energy source for the microbial reduction.
Journal ArticleDOI

On the kinetics of formaldehyde-S(IV) adduct formation in slightly acidic solution

TL;DR: In this paper, it was shown that the kinetics of dehydration of methylene glycol (hydrated formaldehyde) must be considered in determining the rate of hydroxymethanesulfonic acid formation in weakly acidic or neutral solution.

Possible Chemical Transformations in Snow and Ice Induced by Solar (UV PHOTONS) and Cosmic Irradiation (MUONS)

TL;DR: Bales and Wolff as discussed by the authors found that the ice age environmental conditions appeared to correspond to about 6 °C cooler temperatures and atmospheric CO2 and CH4 levels lower by a factor of nearly 2 and 4, respectively.
