TL;DR: Using exome sequencing, it is shown that analysis of rare coding variation in 3,871 autism cases and 9,937 ancestry-matched or parental controls implicates 22 autosomal genes at a false discovery rate of < 0.05, plus a set of 107 genes strongly enriched for those likely to affect risk (FDR < 0.30).
Journal ArticleDOI
ADHD and autism: differential diagnosis or overlapping traits? A selective review.
Regina Taurines,Christina Schwenck,Eva Westerwald,Michael Sachse,Michael Siniatchkin,Christine M. Freitag +5 more
TL;DR: Data on comorbidity rates and symptom overlap is presented and common and disorder-specific risk factors are discussed, including recent proteomic studies, and neuropsychological findings in the areas of attention, reward processing, and social cognition are compared between both disorders.
Journal ArticleDOI
Executive and Visuo-motor Function in Adolescents and Adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder
Michael Sachse,Sabine Schlitt,Daniela Hainz,Angela Ciaramidaro,Shella Schirman,Henrik Walter,Henrik Walter,Fritz Poustka,Sven Bölte,Sven Bölte,Christine M. Freitag +10 more
TL;DR: Results of this study are in line with previous studies reporting only minimal EF difficulties in older individuals with ASD when assessed by computerized tasks, but the finding of impaired visuo-motor information processing should be accounted for in further neuropsychological studies in ASD.
Journal ArticleDOI
Common variants in genes of the postsynaptic FMRP signalling pathway are risk factors for autism spectrum disorders.
Regina Waltes,Eftichia Duketis,Michael Knapp,Richard Anney,Guillaume Huguet,Guillaume Huguet,Sabine Schlitt,Tomasz A. Jarczok,Michael Sachse,Laura M. Kämpfer,Tina Kleinböck,Fritz Poustka,Sven Bölte,Sven Bölte,Sven Bölte,Gabriele Schmötzer,Anette Voran,Ellen Huy,Jobst Meyer,Thomas Bourgeron,Thomas Bourgeron,Sabine M. Klauck,Christine M. Freitag,Andreas G. Chiocchetti +23 more
TL;DR: Functional analyses revealed that minor alleles predicted to alter splicing factor binding sites significantly increase levels of an alternative mRNA isoform of the respective gene while keeping the overall expression of the gene constant, underpin the role of ASD candidate genes in postsynaptic FMRP regulation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Group-based cognitive behavioural psychotherapy for children and adolescents with ASD: the randomized, multicentre, controlled SOSTA – net trial
Christine M. Freitag,Katrin Jensen,Leyla Elsuni,Michael Sachse,Beate Herpertz-Dahlmann,Martin Schulte-Rüther,Susann Hänig,Alexander von Gontard,Luise Poustka,Luise Poustka,Tanja Schad-Hansjosten,Christina Wenzl,Judith Sinzig,Regina Taurines,Julia Geißler,Meinhard Kieser,Hannah Cholemkery +16 more
TL;DR: Short-term ASD-specific add-on group-based psychotherapy has shown postintervention efficacy with regard to parent-rated social responsiveness predominantly in male high-functioning children and adolescents with ASD, and future studies should implement blinded standardized observational measures of peer-related social interaction.
