Journal ArticleDOI

Intervening with Urinary Tract Infections Using Anti-Adhesives Based on the Crystal Structure of the FimH–Oligomannose-3 Complex

TL;DR: The potential of ligand-based design of antagonists of urinary tract infections is ruled by the structural mimicry of natural epitopes and extends into blocking of bacterial invasion, intracellular growth and capacity to fluxing and of recurrence of the infection.
Journal ArticleDOI

Molecular nucleation mechanisms and control strategies for crystal polymorph selection.

TL;DR: It is shown that polymorph selection takes place at the earliest stages of structure formation and is based on specific building blocks for each space group, and ways of controlling macromolecular phase transitions are suggested, aiding the development of protein-based drug-delivery systems and macromolescular crystallography.
Journal ArticleDOI

Bacterial Amyloid Formation: Structural Insights into Curli Biogensis

TL;DR: The mechanistic insight into the curli assembly pathway will provide tools for new biotechnological applications and inform the design of targeted inhibitors of amyloid polymerization and biofilm formation.
Journal ArticleDOI

SbsB structure and lattice reconstruction unveil Ca2+ triggered S-layer assembly.

TL;DR: The SbsB lattice represents a previously undescribed structural model for protein assemblies and may advance the understanding of SLP physiology and self-assembly, as well as the rational design of engineered higher-order structures for biotechnology.
