Journal ArticleDOI
Immunosuppression in patients who die of sepsis and multiple organ failure.
Jonathan S. Boomer,Kathleen To,Kathy Chang,Osamu Takasu,Dale F. Osborne,Andrew H. Walton,Traci L. Bricker,Stephen D. Jarman,Daniel Kreisel,Alexander S. Krupnick,Anil Srivastava,Paul E. Swanson,Jonathan Green,Richard S. Hotchkiss +13 more
TL;DR: Patients who die in the ICU following sepsis compared with patients who die of nonsepsis etiologies have biochemical, flow cytometric, and immunohistochemical findings consistent with immunosuppression, and targeted immune-enhancing therapy may be a valid approach in selected patients with sepsi.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mechanisms of Cardiac and Renal Dysfunction in Patients Dying of Sepsis
Osamu Takasu,Joseph P. Gaut,Eizo Watanabe,Kathleen To,R. Eliot Fagley,Brian Sato,Steve Jarman,Igor R. Efimov,Deborah Janks,Anil Srivastava,Sam B. Bhayani,Anne M. Drewry,Paul E. Swanson,Richard S. Hotchkiss,Richard S. Hotchkiss +14 more
TL;DR: Cell death is rare in sepsis-induced cardiac dysfunction, but cardiomyocyte injury occurs, and the degree of cell injury and death does not account for severity of sepsi-induced organ dysfunction.
Journal ArticleDOI
Immunosuppression in Patients Who Die of Sepsis and Multiple Organ Failure
Jonathan S. Boomer,Kathleen To,Kathy Chang,Osamu Takasu,Dale F. Osborne,Andrew H. Walton,Traci L. Bricker,Stephen D. Jarman,Daniel Kreisel,Alexander S. Krupnick,Anil Srivastava,Paul E. Swanson,Jonathan Green,Richard S. Hotchkiss +13 more
TL;DR: In this article, rapid postmortem spleen and lung tissue harvest was performed at the bedsides of 40 patients who died in intensive care units (ICUs) of academic medical centers with active severe sepsis to characterize their immune status at the time of death (2009-2011).
Journal ArticleDOI
CD10-MUM1+ follicular lymphoma lacks BCL2 gene translocation and shows characteristic biologic and clinical features.
Kennosuke Karube,Ying Guo,Junji Suzumiya,Yasuo Sugita,Yuko Nomura,Kohei Yamamoto,Kei Shimizu,Shirou Yoshida,Hideki Komatani,Morishige Takeshita,Masahiro Kikuchi,Naoya Nakamura,Osamu Takasu,Fumiko Arakawa,Hiroyuki Tagawa,Masao Seto,Koichi Ohshima +16 more
TL;DR: The results indicate that CD10-MUM1+ FL is different from typical FL with respect to biologic and clinical features.
Journal ArticleDOI
A randomized, controlled, multicenter trial of the effects of antithrombin on disseminated intravascular coagulation in patients with sepsis
Satoshi Gando,Daizoh Saitoh,Hiroyasu Ishikura,Masashi Ueyama,Yasuhiro Otomo,Shigeto Oda,Shigeki Kushimoto,Katsuhisa Tanjoh,Toshihiko Mayumi,Toshiaki Ikeda,Toshiaki Iba,Yutaka Eguchi,Kohji Okamoto,Hiroshi Ogura,Kazuhide Koseki,Yuichiro Sakamoto,Yasuhiro Takayama,Kunihiro Shirai,Osamu Takasu,Yoshiaki Inoue,Kunihiro Mashiko,Takaya Tsubota,Shigeatsu Endo +22 more
TL;DR: Moderate doses of antithrombin improve DIC scores, thereby increasing the recovery rate from DIC without any risk of bleeding in DIC patients with sepsis, according to the intention-to-treat approach.
