The Lifespan and Turnover of Microglia in the Human Brain
Pedro Réu,Pedro Réu,Azadeh Khosravi,Samuel Bernard,Jeff E. Mold,Mehran Salehpour,Kanar Alkass,Shira Perl,John F. Tisdale,Göran Possnert,Henrik Druid,Jonas Frisén +11 more
TL;DR: It is reported that microglia, unlike most other hematopoietic lineages, renew slowly at a median rate of 28% per year, and some microglial progenitor cells last for more than two decades.
Journal ArticleDOI
Resident Neural Stem Cells Restrict Tissue Damage and Neuronal Loss After Spinal Cord Injury in Mice
Hanna Sabelström,Moa Stenudd,Pedro Réu,Pedro Réu,David O. Dias,Marta Elfineh,Sofia Zdunek,Peter Damberg,Christian Göritz,Jonas Frisén +9 more
TL;DR: It is shown that scarring by neural stem cell–derived astrocytes is required to restrict secondary enlargement of the lesion and further axonal loss after spinal cord injury and one distinct component of the glial scar, deriving from resident neural stem cells, is required for maintaining the integrity of the injured spinal cord.
Journal ArticleDOI
Antibody-secreting plasma cells persist for decades in human intestine
Ole J. B. Landsverk,Omri Snir,Raquel Bartolome Casado,Lisa Richter,Jeff E. Mold,Pedro Réu,Pedro Réu,Rune Horneland,Vemund Paulsen,Sheraz Yaqub,Einar Martin Aandahl,Ole Øyen,Hildur Sif Thorarensen,Mehran Salehpour,Göran Possnert,Jonas Frisén,Ludvig M. Sollid,Espen S. Baekkevold,Frode L. Jahnsen +18 more
TL;DR: Accumulation of CD45− PCs during ageing and the presence of rotavirus-specific clones entirely within the CD19− PC subsets support selection and maintenance of protective PCs for life in human intestine.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cell generation dynamics underlying naive T-cell homeostasis in adult humans
Jeff E. Mold,Pedro Réu,Axel Olin,Samuel Bernard,Jakob Michaëlsson,Sanket Rane,Andrew J. Yates,Andrew J. Yates,Azadeh Khosravi,Mehran Salehpour,Göran Possnert,Petter Brodin,Jonas Frisén +12 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that naive T-cell generation decreases with age because of a combination of declining peripheral division and thymic production during adulthood, and an age-related decline in naiveT-cell turnover is revealed and a molecular pathway that restricts proliferation of peripherally expanded naive t-cell clones that accumulate with age is identified.
Journal ArticleDOI
Conbase: a software for unsupervised discovery of clonal somatic mutations in single cells through read phasing
Joanna Hård,Ezeddin Al Hakim,Marie Kindblom,Åsa K. Björklund,Bengt Sennblad,Ilke Demirci,Marta Paterlini,Pedro Réu,Erik Borgström,Patrik L. Ståhl,Jakob Michaëlsson,Jeff E. Mold,Jonas Frisén +12 more
TL;DR: Conbase leverages phased read data from multiple samples in a dataset to achieve increased confidence in somatic variant calls and genotype predictions and provides superior robustness on simulated data, in vitro expanded fibroblasts and clonal lymphocyte populations isolated directly from a healthy human donor.
