Journal ArticleDOI

The complete genome sequence of Chromobacterium violaceum reveals remarkable and exploitable bacterial adaptability

Ana Tereza Ribeiro de Vasconcelos, +97 more
TL;DR: The complete genome sequence reveals extensive alternative pathways for energy generation, complex and extensive systems for stress adaptation and motility, and widespread utilization of quorum sensing for control of inducible systems, all of which underpin the versatility and adaptability of the organism.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cytotoxicity and potential antiviral evaluation of violacein produced by Chromobacterium violaceum.

TL;DR: Violacein showed no cytopathic inhibition of the following viruses: herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) strain 29-R/acyclovir resistant, hepatitis A virus (strains HM175 and HAF-203) and adenovirus type 5 nor did it show any antiviral activity in the MTT assay.
Journal ArticleDOI

Template assisted synthesis of porous nanofibrous cellulose membranes for tissue engineering

TL;DR: Porous, nanofibrous bacterial cellulose (BC) membranes were produced by the bacterium Acetobacter xylinum using pin templates with diameters varying from 60 to 300μm composed of polyestirene or optical fibers.
Journal ArticleDOI

Antioxidant properties of violacein: possible relation on its biological function.

TL;DR: It is suggested that violacein plays an important role with the microorganism membrane in defense against oxidative stress and has strong antioxidant potential.
Journal ArticleDOI

Full-scale sequencing batch reactor (SBR) for domestic wastewater: Performance and diversity of microbial communities

TL;DR: The reactor showed viability to treat domestic wastewater and changes in ribotype number over biological treatment time among the groups observed being some are linked to nutrient removal.
