Journal ArticleDOI

Statistical evaluation of alternative models of human evolution

TL;DR: Using DNA data from 50 nuclear loci sequenced in African, Asian and Native American samples, it is shown that a simple African replacement model with exponential growth has a higher probability as compared with alternative multiregional evolution or assimilation scenarios.
Journal ArticleDOI

The complete genome sequence of Chromobacterium violaceum reveals remarkable and exploitable bacterial adaptability

Ana Tereza Ribeiro de Vasconcelos, +97 more
TL;DR: The complete genome sequence reveals extensive alternative pathways for energy generation, complex and extensive systems for stress adaptation and motility, and widespread utilization of quorum sensing for control of inducible systems, all of which underpin the versatility and adaptability of the organism.

In defence of model-based inference in phylogeography

TL;DR: It is argued that ABC is a statistically valid approach, alongside other computational statistical techniques that have been successfully used to infer parameters and compare models in population genetics, and is encouraging researchers to study and use model‐based inference in population Genetics.
