Improving the Arabidopsis genome annotation using maximal transcript alignment assemblies
Brian J. Haas,Arthur L. Delcher,Stephen M. Mount,Jennifer R. Wortman,Roger Smith,Linda Hannick,Rama Maiti,Catherine M. Ronning,Douglas B. Rusch,Christopher D. Town,Steven L. Salzberg,Owen White +11 more
TL;DR: The algorithm of the Program to Assemble Spliced Alignments (PASA) tool is described, as well as the results of automated updates to Arabidopsis gene annotations.
Journal ArticleDOI
Macronuclear Genome Sequence of the Ciliate Tetrahymena thermophila, a Model Eukaryote
Jonathan A. Eisen,Robert S. Coyne,Martin Wu,Dongying Wu,Mathangi Thiagarajan,Jennifer R. Wortman,Jonathan H. Badger,Qinghu Ren,Paolo Amedeo,Kristie M. Jones,Luke J. Tallon,Arthur L. Delcher,Steven L. Krieger,Christina del Toro,Hilary F. Ryder,Sondra Williamson,Rebecca A Barbeau,Eileen P. Hamilton,Eduardo Orias +53 more
TL;DR: The T. thermophila genome has been used for functional genomic studies to address biological, biomedical, and biotechnological questions of fundamental importance as mentioned in this paper, and it has been shown that the excision of DNA from the MIC to generate the macronucleus specifically targets foreign DNA as a form of genome self-defense.
Journal ArticleDOI
Overexpression of glutathione S-transferase/glutathione peroxidase enhances the growth of transgenic tobacco seedlings during stress.
TL;DR: Transgenic tobacco seedlings that overexpress a cDNA encoding an enzyme with both glutathione S-transferase andGPX activity had GST- and GPX-specific activities approximately twofold higher than wild-type seedlings when exposed to chilling or salt stress.
Journal ArticleDOI
Osseous adaptation to continuous loading of rigid endosseous implants
TL;DR: Results indicate that relatively simple and inexpensive titanium implants develop a rigid osseous interface, 6 weeks is an adequate healing period, prior to loading, to attain rigid stability and avoid spontaneous fracture, and endosseous implants have potential as a source of firm osseus anchorage for orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Arabidopsis dnd1 “defense, no death” gene encodes a mutated cyclic nucleotide-gated ion channel
Steven J. Clough,Kevin Fengler,Kevin Fengler,I-ching Yu,I-ching Yu,Bernadette Lippok,Bernadette Lippok,Roger Smith,Roger Smith,Andrew F. Bent,Andrew F. Bent +10 more
TL;DR: It is found that salicylic acid is required for the elevated resistance caused by the dnd1 mutation but that removal of salicyric acid did not completely eliminate the dwarf and loss-of-HR phenotypes of mutant dND1 plants.
