Intracellular recordings of action potentials by an extracellular nanoscale field-effect transistor
Xiaojie Duan,Ruixuan Gao,Ping Xie,Tzahi Cohen-Karni,Quan Qing,Hwan Sung Choe,Bozhi Tian,Xiaocheng Jiang,Charles M. Lieber +8 more
TL;DR: Simulations show that the bandwidth of this branched intracellular nanotube FET (BIT-FET) is high enough for it to record fast action potentials even when the nanot tube diameter is decreased to 3 nm, a length scale which is well below that accessible with other methods.
Journal ArticleDOI
Hydrogen Radicals, Nitrogen Radicals, and the Production of O3 in the Upper Troposphere
Paul O. Wennberg,Thomas F. Hanisco,Lyatt Jaeglé,D. J. Jacob,Eric J. Hintsa,E. J. Lanzendorf,James G. Anderson,Ruixuan Gao,E. R. Keim,S. G. Donnelly,L. A. Del Negro,David W. Fahey,S. A. McKeen,Ross J. Salawitch,C. R. Webster,R. D. May,Robert L. Herman,M. H. Proffitt,J. J. Margitan,Elliot Atlas,S. M. Schauffler,Frank Flocke,C. T. McElroy,T. P. Bui +23 more
TL;DR: In the upper tropospheric air masses sampled, the production rate for ozone (determined from the measured concentrations of HO_2 and NO) is calculated to be about 1 part per billion by volume each day.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cortical column and whole-brain imaging with molecular contrast and nanoscale resolution
Ruixuan Gao,Ruixuan Gao,Ruixuan Gao,Shoh Asano,Shoh Asano,Srigokul Upadhyayula,Igor Pisarev,Daniel E. Milkie,Tsung-Li Liu,Ved P. Singh,Austin R. Graves,Grace H. Huynh,Yongxin Zhao,John A. Bogovic,Jennifer Colonell,Carolyn Ott,Christopher T. Zugates,Susan Tappan,Alfredo Rodriguez,Kishore R. Mosaliganti,Shu-Hsien Sheu,H. Amalia Pasolli,Song Pang,C. Shan Xu,Sean G. Megason,Harald F. Hess,Jennifer Lippincott-Schwartz,Adam W. Hantman,Gerald M. Rubin,Tom Kirchhausen,Stephan Saalfeld,Yoshinori Aso,Edward S. Boyden,Eric Betzig +33 more
TL;DR: An approach for high-resolution tracing of neurons, their subassemblies, and their molecular constituents over large volumes is introduced, which can enable high-throughput comparative studies of neural development, circuit stereotypy, and structural correlations to neural activity or behavior.
Journal ArticleDOI
Free-standing kinked nanowire transistor probes for targeted intracellular recording in three dimensions.
TL;DR: This work fabricates free-standing probes where a kinked silicon nanowire with encoded field-effect transistor detector serves as the tip end, and demonstrates real-time monitoring of changes in the action potential as different ion-channel blockers are applied to cells, and multiplexed recording from cells by independent manipulation of two free- standing nanowires.
Journal ArticleDOI
Plateau–Rayleigh crystal growth of periodic shells on one-dimensional substrates
Robert W. Day,Max N. Mankin,Ruixuan Gao,You Shin No,Sun Kyung Kim,David C. Bell,Hong Gyu Park,Charles M. Lieber +7 more
TL;DR: It is shown that for certain conditions, depositing Si onto uniform-diameter Si cores, Ge onto Ge cores and Ge onto Si cores can generate diameter-modulated core-shell nanowires and suggest that surface energy reductions drive the formation of periodic shells.
