Transmission of SARS-CoV-2 on mink farms between humans and mink and back to humans.
Bas B. Oude Munnink,Reina S. Sikkema,David F. Nieuwenhuijse,Robert Jan Molenaar,Emmanuelle Munger,Richard Molenkamp,Arco N. van der Spek,Paulien Tolsma,Ariene Rietveld,Miranda Brouwer,Noortje Bouwmeester-Vincken,Frank Harders,Renate Hakze-van der Honing,Marjolein C.A. TL;DR: The SARS-CoV-2 virus was initially introduced by humans and has since evolved, most likely reflecting widespread circulation among mink in the beginning of the infection period, several weeks before detection.
Journal ArticleDOI
SARS-CoV-2 infection in farmed minks, the Netherlands, April and May 2020.
Nadia Oreshkova,Robert Jan Molenaar,Sandra Vreman,Frank Harders,Bas B. Oude Munnink,Renate Hakze-van der Honing,Nora M. Gerhards,Paulien Tolsma,Ruth Bouwstra,Reina S. Sikkema,Mirriam G.J. TL;DR: Variations in mink-derived viral genomes showed between-mink transmission and no infection link between the farms, and inhalable dust contained viral RNA, indicating possible exposure of workers.
Journal ArticleDOI
Role for migratory wild birds in the global spread of avian influenza H5N8
Samantha Lycett,Rogier Bodewes,Anne Pohlmann,Jill Banks,C. Bányai,Maciej F. Boni,Ruth Bouwstra,Andrew C. Breed,Ian H. Brown,Hualan Chen,Ádám Dán,N. Diep,Marius Gilbert,Sarah C. Hill,Hon S. Ip,C.W. TL;DR: It is shown that long-distance migratory birds can play a major role in the global spread of avian influenza viruses and that the H5N8 virus that recently caused serious outbreaks in European and North American poultry farms came from migrant ducks, swans, and geese that meet at their Arctic breeding grounds.
Journal ArticleDOI
Clinical and Pathological Findings in SARS-CoV-2 Disease Outbreaks in Farmed Mink ( Neovison vison ).
Robert Jan Molenaar,Sandra Vreman,Renate W. Hakze-van der Honing,Rob Zwart,Jan de Rond,Eefke Weesendorp,Lidwien A.M. Smit,Marion Koopmans,Ruth Bouwstra,Arjan Stegeman,Wim H.M. van der Poel +10 more
TL;DR: The most striking postmortem finding was an acute interstitial pneumonia, which was found in nearly all examined mink that died at the peak of the outbreaks of SARS-CoV-2, which caused respiratory disease outbreaks in mink farms in the Netherlands.
Journal ArticleDOI
Seroprevalence of Schmallenberg Virus Antibodies among Dairy Cattle, the Netherlands, Winter 2011–2012
Armin R.W. Elbers,Willie Loeffen,S. Quak,Els A. de Boer-Luijtze,Arco N. van der Spek,Ruth Bouwstra,Riks Maas,Marcel A.H. Spierenburg,Eric P. de Kluijver,Gerdien van Schaik,Wim H.M. van der Poel +10 more
TL;DR: Seroprevalence of the Zika virus was highest in the eastern part of the country, bordering Germany, where the virus was first identified.
