Enhanced genome assembly and a new official gene set for Tribolium castaneum
Nicolae Herndon,Jennifer Shelton,Lizzy Gerischer,Panos Ioannidis,Maria Ninova,Jürgen Dönitz,Robert M. Waterhouse,Chun Liang,Carsten Damm,Janna Siemanowski,Peter Kitzmann,Julia Ulrich,Stefan Dippel,Georg Oberhofer,Yonggang Hu,Jonas Schwirz,Magdalena Ines Schacht,Sabrina Lehmann,Alice Montino,Nico Posnien,Daniela Gurska,Thorsten Horn,Jan Seibert,Iris M. Vargas Jentzsch,Kristen A. Panfilio,Jianwei Li,Ernst A. Wimmer,Dominik Stappert,Siegfried Roth,Reinhard Schröder,Yoonseong Park,Michael Schoppmeier,Ho Ryun Chung,Martin Klingler,Sebastian Kittelmann,Markus Friedrich,Rui Chen,Boran Altincicek,Andreas Vilcinskas,Evgeny M. Zdobnov,Sam Griffiths-Jones,Matthew Ronshaugen,Mario Stanke,Susan J. Brown,Gregor Bucher +44 more
TL;DR: An improved genome assembly and an enhanced genome annotation resulting in a new official gene set (OGS3) for Tribolium castaneum are presented, which significantly increase the quality of the genomic resources.
Journal ArticleDOI
Conserved RNA structures in the non-canonical Hac1/Xbp1 intron
TL;DR: The results show that the sequence of the Hac1/Xbp1 intron is highly conserved only around the splice sites recognized by Ire1, and it is proposed that these species use a different mechanism to regulate the UPR.
Journal ArticleDOI
Sex-Biased Expression of MicroRNAs in Schistosoma mansoni.
Antonio Marco,Ana Kozomara,Jerome H.L. Hui,Aidan M. Emery,David Rollinson,Sam Griffiths-Jones,Matthew Ronshaugen +6 more
TL;DR: It is proposed that the recent emergence of separate sexes in Schistosoma had an effect on the chromosomal distribution and evolution of microRNAs, and that micro RNAs are likely to participate in the sex differentiation/maintenance process.
Journal ArticleDOI
Song exposure regulates known and novel microRNAs in the zebra finch auditory forebrain
Preethi H. Gunaratne,Preethi H. Gunaratne,Ya-Chi Lin,Ashley Benham,Jenny Drnevich,Cristian Coarfa,Jayantha B. Tennakoon,Chad J. Creighton,Jong H. Kim,Aleksandar Milosavljevic,Michael Watson,Sam Griffiths-Jones,David F. Clayton +12 more
TL;DR: The experience of hearing another bird singing alters the profile of miRNAs in the auditory forebrain of zebra finches, with significant and consistent changes in copy number after song exposure across three biological replications of the song-silence comparison.
Journal ArticleDOI
Modulation of intrinsic phi,psi propensities of amino acids by neighbouring residues in the coil regions of protein structures: NMR analysis and dissection of a beta-hairpin peptide.
TL;DR: The role of context on phi,psi preferences is considered by examining the effects of neighbouring residues in modulating coil propensities within a data base of 512 high-resolution, low-homology structures to find a better correlation between 3JNH-Halpha values derived from the data base model and those determined experimentally when context-dependent phi distributions are considered.
