MacVicar,Tomas Watanabe,Johannes Woitzik,Martin Lauritzen,Anthony J. Strong,Jed A. Hartings +93 more
TL;DR: Consensus recommendations for electrocorticographic methods to record, classify, and score spreading depolarizations and associated spreading depressions are provided, which offer distinct advantages over other neuromonitoring modalities and allow for future refinement through less invasive and more automated approaches.
Journal ArticleDOI
Simultaneous monitoring of potassium, glucose and lactate during spreading depolarization in the injured human brain – Proof of principle of a novel real-time neurochemical analysis system, continuous online microdialysis:
Michelle L. Rogers,Chi Leng Leong,Sally A. N. Gowers,Isabelle C. Samper,Sharon L. Jewell,Asma Khan,Leanne McCarthy,Clemens Pahl,Clemens Pahl,Christos M. Tolias,Christos M. Tolias,Daniel C. Walsh,Daniel C. Walsh,Anthony J. Strong,Martyn G. Boutelle +14 more
TL;DR: Preliminary data suggest that the transient changes recover more slowly after the passage of a sequence of multiple spreading depolarizations giving rise to a decrease in basal Dialysate glucose and an increase in basal dialysate potassium and lactate levels.
Journal ArticleDOI
A computational biomarker of idiopathic generalized epilepsy from resting state EEG
Helmut Schmidt,Wessel Woldman,Marc Goodfellow,Fahmida A. Chowdhury,Michalis Koutroumanidis,Sharon L. Jewell,Mark P. Richardson,Mark P. Richardson,John R. Terry +8 more
TL;DR: This work describes the discovery and validation of an epilepsy biomarker based on computational analysis of a short segment of resting‐state (interictal) EEG using a computer model of dynamic networks, where the network is inferred from the extent of synchrony between EEG channels (functional networks) and the normalized power spectrum of the clinical data.
Journal ArticleDOI
Which Spreading Depolarizations Are Deleterious To Brain Tissue
C. William Shuttleworth,R. David Andrew,Yama Akbari,Cenk Ayata,Ramani Balu,Kevin C. Brennan,Martyn G. Boutelle,Andrew P. Carlson,Jens P. Dreier,Martin Fabricius,Eszter Farkas,Brandon Foreman,Raimund Helbok,Nils Henninger,Sharon L. Jewell,Stephen C. Jones,Sergei A. Kirov,Britta E. Lindquist,Carolina B. Maciel,David O. Okonkwo,Katelyn M. Reinhart,R. Meldrum Robertson,Eric Rosenthal,Tomas Watanabe,Jed A. Hartings +24 more
TL;DR: It is hoped that this report will stimulate collection of data that are needed to develop a more nuanced understanding of SD in different pathophysiological states, as the field continues to move toward effective clinical interventions.
Journal ArticleDOI
3D printed microfluidic device for online detection of neurochemical changes with high temporal resolution in human brain microdialysate.
Isabelle C. Samper,Sally A. N. Gowers,Michelle L. Rogers,De-Shaine R. K. Murray,Sharon L. Jewell,Clemens Pahl,Anthony J. Strong,Martyn G. Boutelle +7 more
TL;DR: The design, optimisation and fabrication of a mechanically robust 3D printed microfluidic device for the high time resolution online analysis of biomarkers in a microdialysate stream at microlitre per minute flow rates are presented.
