Chloride-induced corrosion of steel rebars in simulated pore solutions of alkali-activated concretes
TL;DR: In this article, the passivation and chloride-induced depassivation of steel rebars immersed in varying alkaline environments (0.80 m, 1.12 m and 1.36 m NaOH solutions), simulating the pore solutions of low-Ca alkali activated concretes, were investigated using a range of electrochemical techniques.
Journal ArticleDOI
The effect of the steel–concrete interface on chloride-induced corrosion initiation in concrete: a critical review by RILEM TC 262-SCI
Ueli Angst,Mette Rica Geiker,Maria Cruz Alonso,Rob B. Polder,Burkan Isgor,Bernhard Elsener,Hong S. Wong,Alexander Michel,Karla Hornbostel,Christoph Gehlen,Raoul François,M. Sánchez,Maria Criado,Maria Criado,Henrik E. Sørensen,Carolyn M. Hansson,Radhakrishna G. Pillai,Shishir Mundra,J. Gulikers,Michael Raupach,José F. Pacheco,Alberto A. Sagüés +21 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of various steel-concrete interface (SCI) characteristics on the susceptibility of reinforced concrete to corrosion was investigated and the authors found that the different SCI characteristics have received highly unbalanced research attention.
Journal ArticleDOI
Steel corrosion in reinforced alkali‐activated materials
Shishir Mundra,Susan A. Bernal,Maria Criado,Petr Hlaváček,Gino Ebell,Steffi Reinemann,Gregor J. G. Gluth,John L. Provis +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, the role of the chemistry of AAMs on the mechanisms governing passivation and chloride-induced corrosion of the steel reinforcement is elucidated, to bring a better understanding of the durability of aAM structure exposed to chloride.
Journal ArticleDOI
Modelling chloride transport in alkali-activated slags
Shishir Mundra,Shishir Mundra,Dale P. Prentice,Dale P. Prentice,Susan A. Bernal,Susan A. Bernal,John L. Provis +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, an interactive software framework was proposed to predict the ingress of chlorides in concretes from a sound theoretical basis, which is essential in providing confidence in the durability of these materials in essential infrastructure applications.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mechanisms of passivation and chloride-induced corrosion of mild steel in sulfide-containing alkaline solutions
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the role of HS− in defining mild steel passivation chemistry and found that the surface film formed on the steel in alkaline-sulfide solutions contains Fe(OH)2 and Fe(S) complexes, and the critical chloride concentration to induce corrosion increases at high sulfide concentration.
