Gulcher,Unnur Thorsteinsdottir,Augustine Kong,Kari Stefansson +50 more
TL;DR: A second genetic variant in the 8q24 region that, in conjunction with another variant recently discovered, accounts for about 11%–13% of prostate cancer cases in individuals of European descent and 31% of cases in African Americans is reported.
Journal ArticleDOI

Gulcher,Unnur Thorsteinsdottir,Augustine Kong,Kari Stefansson +79 more
TL;DR: Results from eight case-control groups demonstrate that this variant in TCF2 (HNF1β), a gene known to be mutated in individuals with maturity-onset diabetes of the young type 5, confers protection against type 2 diabetes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Under Diagnosis and Over Diagnosis of Prostate Cancer
Theresa Graif,Stacy Loeb,Kimberly A. Roehl,Sara N. Gashti,Christopher R Griffin,Xiaoying Yu,William J. Catalona +6 more
TL;DR: Under diagnosis of prostate cancer continues to occur more frequently than over diagnosis, and lowering the prostate specific antigen threshold for recommending biopsy to 2.5 ng/ml resulted in a lower rate of under diagnosis and a higher progression-free survival rate.
Journal ArticleDOI
Pathological Features After Radical Prostatectomy in Potential Candidates for Active Monitoring
Christopher R Griffin,Xiaoying Yu,Stacy Loeb,Vic N. Desireddi,Misop Han,Theresa Graif,William J. Catalona +6 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that low volume Gleason 3 + 3 prostate cancer is frequently under staged, and that immediate therapy with radical prostatectomy is associated with favorable outcomes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Pediatric Minor Traumatic Brain Injury With Intracranial Hemorrhage: Identifying Low-Risk Patients Who May Not Benefit From ICU Admission.
Erin Burns,Beech Burns,Craig D. Newgard,Amber Laurie,Rongwei Fu,Theresa Graif,Casey S. Ward,Abbie Bauer,David Steinhardt,Laura M. Ibsen,David M. Spiro +10 more
TL;DR: A subset of low-risk patients with mild injury and tICH for whom ICU care is unnecessary may not require ICU admission, although this rule requires external validation before implementation.
