Journal ArticleDOI

Interrelationships between age, total dietary fiber intake and breath methane in humans

TL;DR: The aim of this study was to compare dietary intakes in MP and methane nonproducers and in 122 healthy subjects, breath gases were analysed and 3-day food records were collected to assess the nutrient intakes.
Book ChapterDOI

Effect of Short Chain Fatty Acids on Calcium Absorption in Humans

TL;DR: It is hypothesized that although some fibers may bind minerals in the small intestine, fermentation of the fiber in the colon releases the bound minerals which then are absorbed in the presence of the product of fermentation, short chain fatty acid (SCFA).
Journal ArticleDOI

Measuring glycaemic responses: duplicate fasting samples or duplicate measures of one fasting sample?

TL;DR: It is suggested that taking two fasting blood samples does not necessarily improve, and may even reduce, the precision of AUC as a measure of glycaemic response, and further studies are needed before requiring that two fastingBlood samples be taken for determining Glycaemic index.
Journal ArticleDOI

Increased Serum Cholesterol in Healthy Human Methane Producers Is Confounded by Age

TL;DR: It is shown that breath methane increases with age, which may be due to age-related increases in transit time and carbohydrate malabsorption, and serum cholesterol was significantly higher in MP compared with MNP, but the differences were not significant after adjusting for age.
