Journal ArticleDOI

Discovery and genotyping of structural variation from long-read haploid genome sequence data

TL;DR: Interestingly, when the authors repeat SV detection on a pseudodiploid genome constructed in silico by merging the two haploids, it is found that ∼59% of the heterozygous SVs are no longer detected by SMRT-SV, indicating that haploid resolution of long-read sequencing data will significantly increase sensitivity of SV detection.
Journal ArticleDOI

Bird-like sex chromosomes of platypus imply recent origin of mammal sex chromosomes

TL;DR: In other amniotes (reptiles and birds), sex is determined by a variety of different mechanisms that belong in two broad classes: genetic or environmental, although recent data show that some species combine both (Quinn et al. 2007) as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI

Alternative strategies for development of a reference transcriptome for quantification of allele specific expression in organisms having sparse genomic resources.

TL;DR: Two strategies for analyzing allele specific expression within interspecies hybrids produced from crossing two Xiphophorus fish species are compared and it is indicated that indels between the two parental alleles are the major cause of the differences in results observed when employing these two methods.
