Journal ArticleDOI
Origin-Dependent Variations in the Atmospheric Microbiome Community in Eastern Mediterranean Dust Storms
TL;DR: It is shown, for the first time, that dust storms from different sources display distinct bacterial communities, suggesting possible diverse effects on the environment and public health.
Journal ArticleDOI
Broadband optical properties of biomass-burning aerosol and identification of brown carbon chromophores
Nir Bluvshtein,Peng Lin,J. Michel Flores,Lior Segev,Yinon Mazar,Eran Tas,Graydon Snider,Crystal L. Weagle,Steven S. Brown,Steven S. Brown,Alexander Laskin,Yinon Rudich +11 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors used a recently developed approach to retrieve the time and spectral-dependent optical properties of ambient biomass-burning aerosols from 300 to 650nm wavelengths during a regional nighttime bonfire festival in Israel.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of Dust Storms on the Atmospheric Microbiome in the Eastern Mediterranean
TL;DR: It is concluded that dust storms enrich the ambient airborne microbiome with new soil-derived bacteria that disappear as the dust settles, suggesting that the bacteria are transported attached to the dust particles.
Journal ArticleDOI
Size-Resolved Identification, Characterization, and Quantification of Primary Biological Organic Aerosol at a European Rural Site
Carlo Bozzetti,Kaspar R. Daellenbach,Christoph Hueglin,Paola Fermo,Jean Sciare,A. Kasper-Giebl,Yinon Mazar,Gülcin Abbaszade,Mario El Kazzi,Raquel Gonzalez,Timor Shuster-Meiseles,Mira Flasch,Robert Wolf,Adéla Křepelová,Francesco Canonaco,Jürgen Schnelle-Kreis,Jay G. Slowik,Ralf Zimmermann,Yinon Rudich,Urs Baltensperger,Imad El Haddad,André S. H. Prévôt +21 more
TL;DR: The first quantification of the entire PBOACOARSE mass and its main sources is presented by analyzing size-segregated filter samples collected during the summer and winter at the rural site of Payerne (Switzerland), representing a continental Europe background environment.
Journal ArticleDOI
Impact of urban air pollution on the allergenicity of Aspergillus fumigatus conidia: Outdoor exposure study supported by laboratory experiments.
TL;DR: During the first 12h of exposure, the allergenic potency of the fungal allergen A. fumigatus in polluted urban environments is expected to increase, and additional work is needed in order to determine if this behavior occurs for other allergens.
