So,David Jien-Wei Liu,Dilip Mathai,Jennifer Perera,Tran Van Ngoc +30 more
TL;DR: It is confirmed that MRSA infections in the community have been increasing in Asian countries and data suggest that various MRSA clones have spread between the community and hospitals as well as between countries.
Journal ArticleDOI
High prevalence of antimicrobial resistance among clinical Streptococcus pneumoniae isolates in Asia (an ANSORP study).
Jae-Hoon Song,Sook-In Jung,Kwan Soo Ko,Nayoung Kim,Jun Seong Son,Hyun-Ha Chang,Hyun Kyun Ki,Won Sup Oh,Ji Yoeun Suh,Kyong Ran Peck,Nam Yong Lee,Yonghong Yang,Quan Lu,Anan Chongthaleong,Cheng-Hsun Chiu,M. TL;DR: Multilocus sequence typing showed that the spread of the Taiwan19F clone and the Spain23F clone could be one of the major reasons for the rapid increases in antimicrobial resistance among S. pneumoniae isolates in Asia.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evaluation of Binax NOW, an Assay for the Detection of Pneumococcal Antigen in Urine Samples, Performed among Pediatric Patients
TL;DR: In the authors' evaluation of a new assay for the detection of pneumococcal antigen in urine (Binax NOW; Binax), the test result was no more likely to be positive among 88 children with radiographically confirmed pneumonia than among 198 control subjects; however, it was significantly morelikely to bepositive among children who were nasopharyngeal carriers of pneumitis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Discrepant gut microbiota markers for the classification of obesity-related metabolic abnormalities.
Qiang Zeng,Dongfang Li,Dongfang Li,Yuan He,Yinhu Li,Zhenyu Yang,Xiaolan Zhao,Yanhong Liu,Yu Wang,Jing Sun,Xin Feng,Fei Wang,Jiaxing Chen,Yuejie Zheng,Yonghong Yang,Xuelin Sun,Ximing Xu,Daxi Wang,Toby Kenney,Yiqi Jiang,Hong Gu,Yongli Li,Ke Zhou,Shuai Cheng Li,Wenkui Dai +24 more
TL;DR: Common biomarkers were identified for the obesity patients with high uric acid, high serum lipids and high blood pressure, such as Clostridium XIVa, Bacteroides and Roseburia, which hold the potential to predict obesity-related metabolic abnormalities, and interventions based on these biomarkers might be beneficial to weight loss and metabolic risk improvement.
Journal ArticleDOI
Carriage of Antibiotic-Resistant Pneumococci among Asian Children: A Multinational Surveillance by the Asian Network for Surveillance of Resistant Pathogens (ANSORP)
Nam Yong Lee,Jae-Hoon Song,Sungmin Kim,Kyong Ran Peck,Kangmo Ahn,Sang-Il Lee,Yonghong Yang,Jie Li,Anan Chongthaleong,Surapee Tiengrim,Nalinee Aswapokee,Tzou Yien Lin,Jue-Lan Wu,Cheng-Hsun Chiu,M. K. TL;DR: Data in this study documented the high rate of penicillin or multidrug resistance among isolates of pneumococci carried nasally in children in Asia and the Middle East and showed that this is due to the spread of a few predominant clones in the region.
