TL;DR: Li strengthened the digraph result by showing that the directed path can be constrained to start from any vertex that can reach all others, and gave another extension of the Gallai-Roy-Vitaver Theorem on graphs.

18 May 2009TL;DR: Simulation results reveal that the proposed robot deployment algorithm outperforms most existing robot deployment mechanisms in power conservation and obstacle resistance, and therefore achieves the better deployment performance.
Abstract: —This paper proposes a robot deployment algorithm that overcomes unpredicted obstacle, and employs a full-coverage deployment with the minimal number of sensor nodes. Without providing the location information, a spiral movement rule is proposed for robot efficiently deploying sensors to achieve power conservation and full-coverage purposes. Simulation results reveal that the proposed robot deployment algorithm outperforms most existing robot deployment mechanisms in power conservation and obstacle resistance, and therefore achieves the better deployment performance.

TL;DR: A local storage method with a small control overhead is proposed for an object-tracking application in wireless sensor networks to store the detected events in a local storage and maintain the relation of the sensed data through a low-cost implicit linked list among sensor nodes.
Abstract: In wireless sensor networks, the storage policy of the sensed event affects the number of control messages required. If the number of control messages can be reduced, the network lifetime can be increased because transmitting unnecessary control messages requires extra energy consumption. A local storage method with a small control overhead is proposed for an object-tracking application in wireless sensor networks. The main idea is to store the detected events in a local storage and maintain the relation of the sensed data through a low-cost implicit linked list among sensor nodes. When an object moves across the sensing field, the detecting sensor can automatically construct a linked list along the moving path of the object. The stored event records can be extracted by tracing the linked list from head to tail to obtain the complete information. When the memory space in a sensor node is full, a link reconstruction mechanism is proposed to distribute the heavy loads of sensor nodes to nearby nodes. Finally, performance analysis and simulation have been conducted to verify that the proposed method can reduce the amount of control messages and increase the network lifetime.

TL;DR: The findings were that learning achievement was similar for videoconferencing and traditional face-to-face instruction and it showed a significant relationship between emotional intelligence and learning achievement.
Abstract: Distance learning, where instruction is given to students despite wide separations of students and teachers, is increasingly popular. Videoconferencing, which is examined in this study, is a distance learning mode of featuring real-time interaction of students and teachers and provides sequence, real-time, vision, and actual interaction. This study focuses on learning achievement compared to that of face-to-face instruction at one fixed location. It investigates the interrelation of learning achievement, gender, emotional intelligence, and motivation. Statistical techniques are used to analyze and evaluate the data. The subjects were divided into a target group and control group. The findings were that learning achievement was similar for videoconferencing and traditional face-to-face instruction. It showed a significant relationship between emotional intelligence and learning achievement. An implication is that a judicious embedding of emotional intelligence consideration in the design and implementation of videoconferencing courses might enhance learning achievement.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors extend Gronberg and Meyer's results and study the problem that occurs when transportation costs are different between a firm and consumers: the firm may adopt discriminatory pricing with an inefficient transport mode, whereby the problem of incentive inconsistency occurs.
Abstract: This paper extends Gronberg and Meyer’s results (1981 21:541–549) and studies the problem that occurs when transportation costs are different between a firm and consumers: The firm (based on a profit-maximizing consideration) may adopt discriminatory pricing with an inefficient transport mode. This inefficient pricing behavior may not be consistent with the social optimum, whereby the problem of incentive inconsistency thus occurs. When dealing with endogenous pricing modes having asymmetric transportation costs, one should pay more attention to the distortion caused by the inconsistency problem.
