TL;DR: In this article, the same model without differential calculus and a different decision procedure is presented, without the comparison of those costs, a numerical example is illustrated to determine the optimal production policy by our criteria.
Abstract: Pentico et al. [The EPQ with partial backordering and phase-dependent backordering rate. Omega 2011;39(5):574–7] recently proposed an EPQ model with partial backordering. They tried to determine the minimum average total cost per year from the three cases: to lose all sales, to meet all demand, and to allow stockouts with partial backordering. In this paper, we solve the same model without differential calculus and present a different decision procedure. Without the comparison of those costs, a numerical example is illustrated to determine the optimal production policy by our criteria.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors developed a methodology integrating remote sensing, geographic information system technology and local spatial autocorrelation geo-computation for quick drought assessment, which can be used to identify high drought risk areas as a first step towards helping local administrators improve the allocation of local water resources.
Abstract: The objective of this study is to develop a novel methodology integrating remote sensing, geographic information system technology and local spatial autocorrelation geo-computation for quick drought assessment. One group of drought indices, based on the condition of the vegetation, includes the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), Anomaly of Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVIA) and Standardized Vegetation Index (SVI). The other group, based on the moisture conditions, includes the Normalized Difference Moisture Index (NDMI) and Standardized Moisture Index (SMI). The local G-statistic (Gi*) provides insight into the spatial relationships of the drought indices for drought risk assessment. Specifically, locations with significant Gi* values indicate spatial clusters where there are differences between the vegetative and hydrological drought indices. The results of spatial co-occurrence analysis indicate the existence of hot spots where the drought indices are spatially stable. This spatial information can be used to identify high drought risk areas as a first step towards helping local administrators improve the allocation of local water resources in arid environments. Finally, the novel methodology, integrating remote sensing, geocomputation and geographic information techniques, is demonstrated. The results indicate its effectiveness for quick drought assessment.

26 Jun 2009TL;DR: In this research, a multi-objective capacitated location-inventory distribution network system is formulated which integrates the effects of facility location, transportation, and inventory issues and includes conflicting objectives.
Abstract: Supply chain distribution network system provides an optimal platform for efficient and effective supply chain management. There are trade-offs betweenefficiency and responsiveness . In this research, a multi-objective capacitated location-inventory distribution network system is formulated which integrates the effects of facility location, transportation, and inventory issues and includes conflicting objectives. This model allows determining the optimal locations of distribution centers (DCs) and the assignment of buyers to DCs to find the set of Pareto optimal solutions. The possibility of a hybrid GA approach and its scenario analysis is investigated to understand the model performance and to illustrate how parameter changes influence its output.

12 Aug 2007TL;DR: A virtual overlay network and two novel approaches in this framework are addressed to significantly improve the efficiency of data delivery in MANETs to outperform the existing publish/subscribe approach based on AODV routing protocol.
Abstract: In this paper, we propose a framework for supporting context-aware environments in mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs). A virtual overlay network and two novel approaches in this framework are addressed to significantly improve the efficiency of data delivery in MANETs. The surrounding context of mobile nodes is used to determine which scheme, push-based or pull-based approaches, is adopted. When a real-time event happened in a node, push-based approach is adopted to disseminate urgent messages to its neighboring nodes. On the contrary, pull-based approach is adopted by building a virtual backbone, namely segment-tree, for seeking for more contextual information. Finally, the simulation is conducted to illustrate the performance achievements that our methods outperform the existing publish/subscribe approach based on AODV routing protocol.
