Abstract: Numerous studies in political science have rated and evaluated various elements of importance to the discipline, including graduate programs, journal quality, and even the contribution of individuals within the discipline itself. We could not discover, however, any study evaluating the quality of academic book publishers in political science. Yet, as we have witnessed in tenure and promotion cases, in hiring decisions, in departmental gossip, and at APSA meetings and other professional gatherings, with whom one publishes does matter. One colleague wrote us, "I vividly remember a conversation with a fellow author . . . [who] refused to submit a manuscript to certain publishers because they were not prestigious enough. In my experience (about thirty years), there is a decided `unwritten' hierarchy of publishers, not only in political science, indeed, not only in academia." Another noted, "My general sense is that the pecking order of publishers is quite clear within my subfield (at least between the best and the rest)." If there is a clear hierarchy among publishers, then which presses are viewed by members of the discipline as publishing the highest quality books?

Abstract: The generation and propagation of superluminal X-shaped pulses is investigated. We demonstrate that such pulses can be modelled using a spectral approach that produces time-limited Bessel beams. Special attention is given to calculating the velocities of the modelled pulsed Bessel beams. The velocities of the peaks of the resulting pulses depend on the shapes of the spatio-temporal distributions of the applied time-windows. The generation of pulsed Bessel beams is investigated for various set-ups; including circular arrays, annular slits and axicons. It is shown that superluminal pulsed Bessel beams undergo a delayed generation before they are launched; henceforth, the peak of these pulses travels at speeds exceeding that of light.

Abstract: IGF2BP 1, 2 and 3 control the fate of many transcripts. Immunoprecipitation studies demonstrated the IGF2BPs to bind to IGF1R mRNA, and our laboratory has recently shown them to post-transcriptionally regulate IGF1R. This study sought to identify a microRNA regulating the IGF2BPs and consequently IGF1R. All three IGF2BPs were among the top-ranked predicted targets of let-7i. Let-7i was downregulated in HCC tissues, and transfection of HuH-7 with let-7i inhibited malignant cell behaviors and decreased IGF2BPs transcripts. Direct binding of let-7i to IGF2BP2 and IGF2BP3 3'UTRs was confirmed, and the effect of let-7i caused a decrease in the IGF2BPs' target gene, the IGF1R. IGF1R mRNA was inversely correlated with let-7i in HCC tissues and was reduced upon let-7i transfection into HuH-7. Reporter assays validated IGF1R as a target of let-7i. Therefore, let-7i may control HCC tumorigenesis by regulating IGF1R directly and indirectly by interrupting the interplay between IGF1R and the IGF2BPs.

Abstract: This article explores the stance of non-Egyptian celebrities performing in Egyptian Colloquial Arabic (ECA) and/or living in Egypt. These celebrities are forced by the Egyptian media to take a stance towards ECA and Egypt, and engage in the ongoing dialogue concerning Egypt's cultural role. Meta-linguistic, as well as linguistic, resources become the focal point of a struggle for dominance. Over the last five years, there have been intense debates regarding the role of Egypt as a cultural hub in relation to the Egyptian media. This is due to the increasing threat from other emerging cultural hubs - such as Dubai and Lebanon - both of which have greater financial resources and allow the use of other Arabic dialects. The data utilised for this research includes television and newspaper interviews, articles, as well as performances by non-Egyptians. One particularly relevant example is that of Russian/Armenian belly dancer Ṣāfināz1 who currently resides in Egypt.
