Abstract: The present study explores the reproductive system of Norileca indica during its transitional and female phase at morphological, histological, ultrastructural and histochemical levels. The paired and symmetrical hermaphroditic reproductive system of N. indica in the transitional and female phases lies dorsally in the thorax on either side of the gut, each consisting of a three-lobed testis (with lobes t1, t2 and t3) followed by an ovary and then a vas deferens, which opens into the paired penes located at sternite 7; the oviduct, arising laterally from the ovarian lobe, opens into the gonopore located on the 6th pereonite. In the transitional phase, the gonads show a presence of germ cells at different maturation stages: spermiogenesis in the testes has already halted, while the ovary undergoes active vitellogenesis. Spermatophores are frequently seen in the vas deferens but seldom in the testes; the size of the oocytes then is 250-1200 μm. The gonadosomatic index (GSI) and nucleocytoplasmic index (NCI) range over 0.090-0.198 and 0.46-0.11, respectively. In the female, oocyte size increases to 1500 μm; the GSI ranges 0.019-0.235 and the NCI from 2.40 to 0.09; testes and vas deferens are not prominent. This paper discusses the possible role of protandrous hermaphroditism in the reproductive life of N. indica.

Abstract: An integer additive set-indexer is defined as an injective function $f:V(G)\rightarrow 2^{\mathbb{N}_0}$ such that the induced function $g_f:E(G) \rightarrow 2^{\mathbb{N}_0}$ defined by $g_f (uv) = f(u)+ f(v)$ is also injective. An IASI $f$ is said to be a weak IASI if $|g_f(uv)|=max(|f(u)|,|f(v)|)$ for all $u,v\in V(G)$. A graph which admits a weak IASI may be called a weak IASI graph. The set-indexing number of an element of a graph $G$, a vertex or an edge, is the cardinality of its set-labels. The sparing number of a graph $G$ is the minimum number of edges with singleton set-labels, required for a graph $G$ to admit a weak IASI. In this paper, we study the admissibility of weak IASI by certain graph powers and their sparing numbers.

Abstract: Diabetes is associated with increased formation of advanced glycation end products (AGEs), which have been implicated in micro and macrovascular complications of diabetes. Our earlier reports showed proangiogenic effect of AGE-bovine serum albumin (BSA). In order to understand the mechanism of AGE-mediated angiogenesis, the possibility of involvement of peroxisome prolifeator activated receptor (PPAR) gamma, a ligand activated transcription factor was examined. The angiogenic effect was studied in chick chorio allantoic membrane (CAM) and by analyzing angiogenic markers in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) in culture. The involvement of PPAR y was investigated using synthetic PPAR gamma agonist GW 1929 and antagonist GW 9662 and by RT-PCR. In CAM assay, PPAR gamma antagonist GW 9662 reversed the AGE-induced effect on vascularity. In HUVECs in culture, GW 9662 reversed the effect of AGE-BSA and decreased the expression of CD 31, E-Selectin and VEGF. RT-PCR analysis showed that treatment with AGE-BSA caused upregulation of PPAR gamma mRNA levels. The reversal of the effect of AGE on angiogenesis by treatment with PPAR gamma antagonists and up-regulation of PPAR gamma gene in HUVECs treated with AGE-BSA suggested the possible involvement of PPAR gamma-dependent downstream pathway in mediating the angiogenic effect of AGE.

Abstract: Social media encompasses many forms such as social networking sites like blogs, vlogs, instant messaging and virtual communities. Among the social media, Facebook appeared as a major platform and emerged as a winner because of its large user base. The rapid rise of social media provides numerous possibilities for academic institutions to exploit this media to extend its learning and teaching endeavors. Nonetheless, this has no boundary; it is suitable for administrators, managers, learners and teachers in academic institutions too. The Social networking is a medium that lets the users to interact and work collaboratively with others, including the ability to browse, search, invite friends to connect and interact across the globe. Several opportunities have been emerged for academic libraries in augmenting their basic objectives like identifying right users communities, their need and proactive teaching learning services to its users. Social software in the web 2.0 world not only enhances the practical usability in the library but also helps the diminishing librarian’s role through value addition to profession itself. In this paper, select cases of social academic networks are described and different perspectives have been given on how academic libraries are participating in this massive social networking drive. Also, an attempt has been made to analyze social media presence of select Indian academic libraries.
