TL;DR: Higher ADMA and NO levels of patients with migraine supported that oxidative stress and endothelial dysfunction may have a role in migraine pathogenesis.
Abstract: Asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA) has been found as correlated with endothelial dysfunction and oxidative stress. There are few studies regarding ADMA and nitric oxide (NO) levels in patients with migraine and alterations of ADMA and NO levels during migraine attack are not well-known. Therefore, in present study, we aimed to measure NO and ADMA levels in patients with migraine and compare them with the control group to investigate the correlation between migraine, oxidative stress and endothelial dysfunction. The migraine group consisted of 59 patients, including 22 suffering from migraine with aura and 37 suffering from migraine without aura. The control group consisted of 31 healthy volunteers without headache. The patients in migraine group were divided into subgroups based on whether attack period was present or not and whether it was migraine with or without aura. Plasma ADMA levels were measured using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay method. Migraine patients had higher concentrations of NO (35.6 ± 7.7, 31.0 ± 6.2 μmol/L, respectively, p = 0.005) and ADMA (0.409 ± 0.028, 0.381 ± 0.044 μmol/L, respectively, p = 0.001) levels when compared with the healthy controls. During migraine attack, NO and ADMA levels were found to be significantly higher in migraine group as compared to control group (respectively, p = 0.015, p = 0.014). Similarly, NO and ADMA levels in the patients with migraine in the interictal period were found to be significantly higher as compared to control group (p = 0.011, p = 0.003). In conclusion, higher ADMA and NO levels of patients with migraine supported that oxidative stress and endothelial dysfunction may have a role in migraine pathogenesis.

TL;DR: Use of noninvasive parameters such as IMT and AD, which reflect the structural and functional characteristics of vasculature, may be useful to define disease progression and subjects at high risk.
Abstract: The etiology of Behcet’s disease, a systemic vasculitis, is unknown. Vascular involvement may be seen in 25% of patients with Behcet’s disease. Vasculitis make the prognosis of Behcet's disease severe. The aim of this study is to examine the structural and functional changes and relations of these changes with progression and prognosis of Behcet’s disease. For this purpose, 40 patients with Behcet’s disease and 40 healthy volunteer control subjects were analyzed, additionally patients with Behcet’s disease were divided into 2 subgroups as those with vascular complications and those without vascular complications. Intima-media thickness and arterial distensibility were measured in all subjects with carotid artery ultrasonography. Carotid artery distensibility was significantly lower in the patient group compared to the control group (0.67 ±0.2, 0.93 ±0.4, p<0.05), and carotid artery IMT was significantly higher (0.59 ±12, 0.80 ±0.11, p<0.05). A statistically significant increase in IMT has been detected (0...

TL;DR: In this article, the stability constants for complexation between ZnCl2, Cu(NO3)2 and AgNO3 salts and the ligand in 80% dioxane-water and pure methanol were determined by conductance measurements.
Abstract: The complexes Mn(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II) ions with a N2O2 Schiff base derived from 1,4-diaminobutane and salicylaldehyde, N,N′-bis(salicylidene)-1,4-diaminobutane (LH2), have been prepared and characterized by elemental analyses, molar conductivities, spectral (IR, NMR, visible, UV) and magnetic moment measurements. Stability constants were measured by means of a conductometric method. Furthermore, the stability constants for complexation between ZnCl2, Cu(NO3)2 and AgNO3 salts and the ligand in 80% dioxane-water and pure methanol were determined by conductance measurements. The magnitudes of these ion association constants are related to the nature of the solvation of the cation and the complexed cation. The mobilities of the complexes are also dependent, in part, upon solvation effects. The complexes Mn(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II) ions with the Schiff base have been evaluated for their antibacterial activity against rec − and rec + stains of Bacillus subtilis.

TL;DR: A web-based application patient follow-up program was developed to create a registry of patients with ankylosing spondylitis by the Turkiye Romatizma Arastirma Savas Dernegi (TRASD) AS Study Group, which gives information on the clinical and demographic profiles of patients, and the efficacy and safety of anti-TNF drugs.
Abstract: A web-based application patient follow-up program was developed to create a registry of patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) by the Turkiye Romatizma Arastirma Savas Dernegi (TRASD) AS Study Group. This study describes the methodological background and patient characteristics. The patient follow-up program is a web-based questionnaire, which contains sections on socio-demographic data, anamnesis, personal and family history, systemic and musculoskeletal examination, laboratory and imaging data and treatment. Between October 1, 2007 and February 28, 2009, 1,381 patients from 41 centers were included in the registry (1,038 males [75.2%]; mean age 39.5 ± 10.7 years). Mean disease duration was 12.1 ± 8.5 years, and mean time from initial symptom to diagnosis was 5 ± 6.8 years (median 2 years). HLA-B27 positivity was detected in 73.7% of 262 patients tested. Manifestations of extraarticular involvement were anterior uveitis (13.2%), psoriasis and other skin and mucous membrane lesions (6%) and inflammatory bowel disease (3.8%). The prevalence of peripheral arthritis was 11.2%. In 51.7% of patients, the Bath AS Disease Activity Index was ≥4. But since our patients consisted of the ones with more severe disease who referred to the tertiary centers and needed a regular follow-up, they may not represent the general AS population. Disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs were being used by 41.9% of patients, with 16.4% using anti-TNF agents. TRASD-IP (Izlem Programi: Follow-up program) is the first AS registry in Turkey. Such databases are very useful and provide a basis for data collection from large numbers of subjects. TRASD-IP gives information on the clinical and demographic profiles of patients, and the efficacy and safety of anti-TNF drugs, examines the impact on quality of life, and provides real-life data that may be used in cost-effectiveness analyses.
