TL;DR: Investigating the potential of near-infrared (near-IR) spectroscopy for non-destructive at-line determination of the amount of polymer coat applied to tablet cores in a Wurster column found it to be profitably employed and offers a simple means to monitor the film coating process.
Abstract: Purpose. The purpose of this study was to investigate the potential of near-infrared (near-IR) spectroscopy for non-destructive at-line determination of the amount of polymer coat applied to tablet cores in a Wurster column.

TL;DR: Morphological and molecular studies of microbial mat composition resulted in a revised growth model where coccoid cyanobacteria predominate in mat communities forming lithified discrete stromatolite buildups, contradicting traditional views that strom atolites with the best lamination in Hamelin Pool are formed by filamentous cyanobacterial mats.
Abstract: A recent field-intensive program in Shark Bay, Western Australia provides new multi-scale perspectives on the world’s most extensive modern stromatolite system. Mapping revealed a unique geographic distribution of morphologically distinct stromatolite structures, many of them previously undocumented. These distinctive structures combined with characteristic shelf physiography define eight ‘Stromatolite Provinces’. Morphological and molecular studies of microbial mat composition resulted in a revised growth model where coccoid cyanobacteria predominate in mat communities forming lithified discrete stromatolite buildups. This contradicts traditional views that stromatolites with the best lamination in Hamelin Pool are formed by filamentous cyanobacterial mats. Finally, analysis of internal fabrics of stromatolites revealed pervasive precipitation of microcrystalline carbonate (i.e. micrite) in microbial mats forming framework and cement that may be analogous to the micritic microstructures typical of Precambrian stromatolites. These discoveries represent fundamental advances in our knowledge of the Shark Bay microbial system, laying a foundation for detailed studies of stromatolite morphogenesis that will advance our understanding of benthic ecosystems on the early Earth.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors address the issue of diversity in higher education, and argue that the diversification of the faculty and student population can no longer be a peripheral activity, but must be reflective of the institution's commitment to diversity.
Abstract: This paper emerged as a reaction to the results of the 1998 campus climate for diversity survey of a major research university in the southern U.S. The paper addresses the issue of diversity in higher education, and argues that the diversification of the faculty and student population can no longer be a peripheral activity, but must be reflective of the institution's commitment to diversity. The paper reviews some of the theoretical explanations for the slow progress in achieving diversity, while at the same time gives an example of good practice. In the final argument, the paper contends that with the inevitability of a more diverse population and workforce, the institutions of higher education do not only have a responsibility, but must assume leadership position on this crucial issue of preparing citizens for the world they now face.

TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of the digital storytelling experience on pre-service teachers' self-efficacy towards edu cational technology were examined, including openness to change towards educational technology, degree of willingness to participate in professional development and technology training, and willingness to work beyond the contractual work hours.
Abstract: This study examined the effects of the digital storytelling experience on pre-service teachers’ self-efficacy towards edu cational technology. Additionally, this study examined professional dispositions including openness to change towards educational technology, degree of willingness to participate in professional development and technology training, and willingness to work beyond the contractual work hours for technology infusion in classrooms. A total of 98 pre-service teachers participated in the study. After participating in a brief tutorial session, participants spent a week creating their own personal stories using Photo Story software. Results indicated that participants’ technology competency and openness to change towards educational technology improved with the experience of digital storytelling. While teaching pre-service teachers about educational technology and classroom technology integration is important, transferring the technology knowledge and skills that they already possess into the learning environment is also important.
