TL;DR: In cases with loss of endplate permeability and/or disruptions therein, as well as changes in geometry and fall in diffusivity associated with fluid expression, the nutrient concentrations could fall to levels inadequate to maintain cellular activity or viability, thus initiating or accelerating disc degeneration.

••
TL;DR: In this article, an abstract diffusion-convection equation is introduced and the physical content of this equation is compatibility with equilibrium thermodynamics, which means that properties of solutions of the abstract diffusion convection equation are mathematical formulations of the experience on which thermodynamics is based.

TL;DR: The generalized mixture rule (GMR) as discussed by the authors is a mixture rule for describing the physical properties of polyphase composites in terms of component properties, volume fractions, and microstructures.
Abstract: The generalized means are used as a simple but elegant mixture rule for providing a unified description of the physical properties of polyphase composites in terms of component properties, volume fractions, and microstructures This formula is named as the generalized mixture rule (GMR) Taking porous materials as a special class of two-phase composites in which pores are dispersed within a solid framework, the GMR yields a rigorous expression for the porosity dependence of the mechanical properties Although the GMR is purely mathematical in origin, its connection to the existing theories and its consistence with extensive experimental data suggests that it should have some physical validity as a hypothesis or at least a very handy tool for a general description of the mechanical properties of multiphase materials including porous solids

TL;DR: Snowmelt was identified as a critical period with regards to the protection of drinking water sources given the high contaminant concentrations and long duration of events in addition to a lack of restrictions on overflows during this period.

TL;DR: In this work plasticized chitosan was prepared by a thermo-mechanical kneading approach with the effects of different non-volatile polyol plasticizers and had the most important amorphous phase content and the lowest thermal, mechanical and rheological properties.
